OMG the burn is horrific...I wish I hadnt looked, Ive heard what can happen but never seen. My heart breaks for this little baby. I cant imagine the pain she must be in. I hope she heals quickly. I know more groomers are getting away from the drying cages, they are horrible. |
Pain Meds... 1 Attachment(s) Several asked, and just realized I hadn't replied - Yes, Chloe is on a couple different pain meds, antibiotics, silver.. cream, pepcide type medicine for her stomach. She was at emergency vets for 2 days starting Mon when the shakes started, my friend noticed what looked like a rash on chest Sun night and said to me Sat after she returned from groomer, that they must have clipped a nail too short as Chloe was favoring a foot and immediately ran upstairs to go to bed when returning from groomer. The emergency clinic admitted her at noon Mon for dehydration, fever (the burn looked like only a hotspot at that time). They immediately admitted her and started IV's, antibiotics and asked the owner (my friend) if she wanted them to resuscitate if it came to that - as I said, it's not been a good week! But I have to say thank you to all for your support - I feel better which in turn will help my friend when I talk to her again tomorrow. Have attached a pic of my crew...my best friends...have to give them a shoutout after being on the puter for hours. |

That poor baby must be in pain! I think that the groomer should pay the vet bill. Quote:

Oh my gosh that is just terrible. The poor baby. Sending good thought that this baby recovers from her injuries. I hope the groomer has learned to watch drying dogs from now on so this doesn't happen again. And I agree these driers should not have HI setting. |
The owner of that poor little one is better then me. I have to be honest, if that was my dog and someone did that due to their irresponsibilitity I'd probably at the least beat the sh_t out of them. I'm generally a pretty forgiving person but not in this case. I'd be out for blood. Elaine |
Oh I am so sorry for this poor baby, I litteraly bawled seeing its tummy, this is heartbreaking that something like that happened. I am glad they got her on all the meds right away, the silver cream you mentioned may be something like which is used on humans.....silver sulfadiazine...it is marvelous cream and is used extensively in hospital burn wards. I will be keeping this little one in prayer. I sent you a pm as soon as I read this. Just recently January 3rd, I was taking a pan of scalding boiling water off the stove and it accidentally came back onto me scalding my stomache, area size of a saucer 2nd and 3rd degree burn, our Dr. was concerned at first about the abdominal wall but thank God it was okay. It really was slow in healing and took up till this past week for the skin to be forming and it still looks red but is healing. That Silver sulfadiazine is absolutely marvelous. My heart is so sad for this baby and from the looks of the picture you posted am sure the surgery is needed due to abdominal wall most likely being affected. Prayers for the little one and also the lady. I know when this little one gets to go home from the vet it is going to need lots of clean bedding, please would you let me know in a pm where I could send something for it. I was just going through some of my fabrics earlier and have some very soft that would work up for that.I really would like to do that. Thank you. Hugs from us both, Patti and Jack and Girls. |

I am sorry to hear that you went thru a burn yourself. What a tremendous heart you have to offer soft bedding for little Chloe - you are an angel on earth and bring tears to my eyes. Huggs |
I had never heard of cage dryers until now. This is unbelievable! I pray this little one does not get an infection and recovers completely. I can't imagine how they didn't hear anything while this was occurring. My heart breaks for this baby. These cage dryers should be outlawed! |

This is just HORRIFIC!!! That poor baby. Sending lots and lots of Healing Yorkie Prayers for this precious one. Please keep us posted on how she is doing. |
How sad and purely horrible. I feel sick after seeing that poor baby, and will be praying for her recovery, and for the owner too. What a nightmare... it is unbelievable. |
Oh my what a horrible thing to happen to your friends baby. I couldn't bring myself to enlarge the pic. I am sending prayers to your friend and her baby. You are truly a wonderful person to be helping your friend. She is lucky she has you. Please keep us updated on how this little baby is doing. I had never heard of cage dryers until now. I have been afraid of using even a hand held dryer on mine I just turn the heat up in the house and let them air dry. |

Please keep us posted about Chloe - this thread was the first I hit when I logged in at 6 am - I really hope she's pulls thru the surgery and even more - the recovery.....infection is going to be the big worry I do hope that groomer gets rid of those dryers and doesnt back away from the big vet bills. From what you said it sounded like he was very upset which shows he is compassionate but he dropped the ball. Those heaters are a possible death trap and no groomer should ever leave a dog unattended or those dryers on high. I agree they should be taken off the market. Patti - I had no idea about your burn sweetie ! your offer for Chloe was so generous - Please tell your friend people all over the world are praying for Chloe. |

I am so sorry to see this..poor baby. |
OMG, I am heartsick seeing that picture and can only imagine the heartache your friend is going through seeing her baby suffering from it. This little one and your friend are in my prayers for a full recovery from this horrific incident. I hope the groomer does right in paying any and all vet costs. Kudos to you  for being there for your friend and coming here to find some info and/or reassurance for her...........and some good ol' YT prayers. I've seen them work wonders! Please keep us posted on her progress. |

I was also thinking last night that I'd like to know the manufacturer of this cage dryer. I'd like to write a letter and boycott their products until they stop making those things. I'd actually like to do that for all of those manufacturers of cage dryers that heat up, but I'd like to start with THIS company. ThreeTerrorsMom: Could you find out the details of that cage dryer for us? |

This makes perfect sense to me which is why when we dry him at home we use the human dryer set to low. It takes a long time to get him completely dry but it is 100% worth it. My question is that the dryer that is high powered...the one the groomer uses on his body...it looks like a vacuum...VERY loud and sounds very powerful.....do you think that this can be harmful to my baby? We've been using the groomer for seven months and she has always done it this way but what do you think? I would be very willing to pay extra to have her completely dried with a human (low powered dryer). |
This is similar to the one she uses. The one she uses is bigger and is black. Could this potentially cause a burn?! |

A lady on my yorkie group is a groomer and our previous groomer both have told me there is no training for grooming really and our one groomer was trained while in correctional facility. She was great but they train them for a trade and this is one of them while at the youth authorities. A few groomers told me alot of them are drug addicts, etc and come to work drunk or on drugs so the one on my yorkie group has to fire alot of them as not safe. One of my friends poodles died at groomer and i met the dog washer from that grooming shop and she told me he would abuse the dogs while grooming by hitting them if they did not stay still, etc and my friends dog died there :( I know there are some wonderful ones as i have a great one and have had a few others but just like all professions there are some bad ones and our dogs cannot talk. Just be careful. I was pretty shocked :( I looked into buying a local grooming shop that was up for sale and adding a boutique and selling food there and did a lot of research on it and decided against it as many told me there are alot of flakey groomers and since i did not want to groom I would be relying on these people for my business as i wanted to run the boutique. This is when i found out even more about things :( |
