another thing to be careful of is if you have your dogs belly shaved as the groomer needs to use cooling gel or switch blades as my boy has been burned before by vet as well as a groomer in shaving his belly - i was furious as it is like a hot iron on the stomach my previous groomer who moved an hour away and opened her own shop told me and she was furious when i brought my boy in asking what happened to him after seeing another groomer while she was on vacation. She explained it so when i saw vet did it when dex had ultrasound i said something and she was embarrassed and i am sure let the tech have it. They get lazy and just keep using the hot blade rather than using the cooling gel or switching blades as they are in a hurry as the more dogs they groom the more money they make ;( again i know there are good ones out there as i have used them but just want you to be aware of some things there is a video on ebay that shows you how to groom your own dogs as well if you want to learn - she is a member here too |

Dryer...and Chloe... Hello everyone - thank you so much for your input and prayers and compassion, I was overwhelmed this morn when seeing all the loving dog owners posting for Chloe. I spoke to Chloe's mom this morn...and told her about the forum and all your blessings and compassion and she cried (I have known her for 7 yrs and have never seen her shed a tear until this week...and it's been daily) I will try and find out the dryer info. However, from what I remember Fri (it was all kind of a blur with Mom and the groomer so emotionally upset)...the dryer looked like this AND was attached to a regular small size dog kennel, blowing right in at face/chest level. http://www.speedydryer.com/00000006_large.jpg I agree something has to be done and also thought about the mfg and contacting my state's atty general, state legislatures, etc. There is no regulation (at least not here in FL that I know of) or oversight. Not that it would have prevented what happened to Chloe....but it's a start. I'm too tired and emotionally involved to do any of that right now....just want to help get Chloe and Mom thru this right now. But will try to get dryer details and maybe we can unite to bring an end to this for many other dogs that will die from these "accidents", negligence. |
Chloe... 1 Attachment(s) Hello everyone, I tried to post a bit ago, but got a message it had to be approved by admin first? I included a link to a similar dryer from what I remember Fri - will try to get all details on dryer. It was a silver metal dryer connected to a small size dog kennel, blowing right in, and depending on dog, ears to chest level. I'll try to include pic of similar dryer. I want to thank everyone for your support, compassion and information. Yes, something has to be done to prevent this from happening - as well, think it needs to start with state regulations and making sure the MFG produces dryers that cannot be set on HIGH. Later I plan to contact my State Atty General and state legislatures, but that's further down the road....have to get Chloe and mom healed. Again, everyone...Thank You, Thank You! I talked to Chloe's mom this morn and Chloe is a bit listless, but eating babyfood and soft canned food out of Mom's hand. She will not drink water, but seems to like the crushed ice. Chloe is 1 year old today! |
My heart breaks for sweet little Chloe, I can't bear to think of what she is going through! You are a wonderful friend to her Mom, please give her Mom a hug from me and a gentle kiss for Chloe. I hope she has the best birthday possible under the circumstances. Happy Birthday Chloe! My prayers will be with this baby, I pray she recovers well. PS Your three babies are adorable! Thanks for sharing their pic. |
I pray the little one is doing better today. |
horrible! In the hospital we rely heavily on silvadine (silver sulfa cream) for bad burns but I am dealing with humans. Keeping her hydrated is very important since fluid and electrolytes are lost thru open wounds, maybe a little chicken broth added to her water. If she seems listless make sure you have some nutra cal on hand to give her added calories or try to see if she will drink Pedialyte plain. If it were my dog I'd report her to the ASPCA. |
is it this one http://www.jefferspet.com/ssc/produc...3FUVJJFD5NCSX6 darn it will not link here it is Oster® Hi-Velocity Table & Cage Dryer http://www.petedge.com/catalog/produ...roductId=43330 http://www.osterpro.com/Product.aspx...=1007&pid=6388 |
Sorry, I guess I didn't answer the question. Sometimes if there is dead skin there from the burn it needs to be removed so that new skin can grow there. I hope everything turns out well for this little one. Please keep us posted as we are a very concerned group. |
Pat thanks for keeping us updated on how little Chloe is doing. I'd like to suggest freezing the baby food in ice cube trays maybe she will take to the frozen food cubes to lick on and get the added nourishment. Could even dilute what she was use to eating in kibbles and freeze it in the ice cube trays. I am so sad this happened to Chloe, total negligence, it is down right disgusting, praying that she is feeling relief from what ever the vet is giving her for the pain. Oh my gosh, the pain of a severe burn is horrible and it sure takes a long time to heal. Like margaritaville (Joan) said the Silver Sulpha is awesome. Sounds like the Vet is using something simialar. The groomers have to be licensed as all stores do. I would turn the pictures over to the state board on licensing groomers and stores, hopefully that these dryers can be outlawed. Prayers for Little Chole, and her Vet in the surgery Tuesday and in his treating little Chloe to be all well soon, also for these dryers to be outlawed EVERYWHERE. Hugs, Patti and Jack and girls. |
The saddest thing I've ever seen. Sending my prayers and love for Chloe and her family and yourself. xoxo |
Oh my Gosh that poor poor baby. That pic made me sick. my heart breaks for that poor dog and the owner. If this is happening at the groomers there needs to be a law for them to stop useing the dryers. was this baby under the dryer to long and not being watched? how sad. Keeping this baby in my prayers. |
OMG, it feels like someone just punched me in the gut, THIS IS SO SAD. I feel for this baby and mommie. Sending prayers, thoughts, and hugs all around...please keep us updated, this thread will be the first one i check tomorrow....I feel so heart broken that this happened. |
My heart goes out to your friend and I don't think you'll ever know how much your friendship means to her. I will keep she and her little girl in prayer. I'm sorry this is so long but there is another thing that can cause our animals burns and I've decided to share this so others can keep this in mind. Heating pad burns. My girl DeeDee was expecting a singleton (x-ray confirmed) and went into labor on the weekend. After the bubble wouldn't come out any more we rushed to the emergency vet. It took a couple more hours before this vet decided she needed to do a c-section because my unborn puppy was not a "live" animal and she had others to take care of. So, once they went into surgery I was fully expecting a dead puppy. I was so sad for DeeDee because she'd had a very strong false pregnancy and wanted a baby so bad. After about a half hour the tech brought the puppy to me to see if I wanted to work on her and within an hour or her birth the miracle name Arabella started to breath. God's gift because DeeDee needed her so bad. I had c-sections on girls in the past and there were some things that didn't seem right about Dee. When I would touch her the skin would ripple like a wave reacting to my touch. She crouched and didn't want to eat or drink. I would hand feed her and hold the water bowl for her. Bella was the only thing she would pay attention to. By the second day I took her to the vet and that's when I noticed a wet spot through her hair. They checked her out then took her to the back to shave the hair so they could get a closer look. I was told as the clippers tried to cut the hair her skin was just peeling off so they stopped. They had seen this before with a heating pad burn. They said it was going to take a lot of work and months of treatment but keeping the antibiotics in her and her away from the other dogs so no bacteria was around was very important. That vet was part of the group that owned the emergency vet hosp and he didn't think they were going to help me with any expenses. So I went to a vet not part of the group and I'll be darn if that vet didn't call the emergency vet to tell them what I said. When I went for a recheck the file was open and I saw the Dr. wanted them to call with anything I said or did. They all closed ranks and protected the butts of any of the other Dr. When I realized what was happening I called the emg Dr. directly. All I wanted was some help with the long term care and he kept saying no you aren't getting anything from us and if you sue you won't get anything because we are an LLC and don't own anything. So I was alone in my care of DeeDee. It took probably 6 months before it had healed from the inside out. Some of the places never grew hair back but with the other spots that did have hair you could cover most of the scars. I put her pictures in an album on my page. DeeDee was under anesthesia so she couldn't get away from the heat either. Please be careful with heating pads also. |

Now OMG i cannot believe that happened thanks for sharing as i had no idea and when my girl hurt her leg people said to put a heating pad under her bed to help but whew glad i did not - YIKES You cannot sue them per se as LLC but you can take them to small claims court i believe as dogs are considered property and you can report them to the veterinary board to go after their license I believe but i am sure they all cover their booties:( I have heard some wild stories from vet techs on vet group about vets they worked for. How sad to know they did something wrong and not make it right that is just straight up wrong and I do believe in Karma when you do not do the right thing so it will come back to them as how can you do that to an animal that cannot speak :( HORRIBLE I am glad she is doing well and you are a great mom |
I am so shocked at this that I don't even have words to express it, so I'll just say I'm going to be doing a lot of praying for this baby and her family!! |
My heart is breaking for that little Yorkie. How awful to be trapped in a corner with no place to get away. It makes me feel sick to my stomach. I agree there should be no hot setting on groomer's hair dryer's. I also think they should have to personally blow dry them by hand. It's all about how many dogs they can squeeze into a day the more dogs the more $. That poor poor little one. I will keep him in my prayer's for a safe and successful surgery. OMG I'm sick.. I am so happy I had to learn to groom my own. I'm almost happy, after seeing that, that Buddy bit the groomer and made me learn to groom him myself. I am so sorry this happened to this baby. Your friend must have been sick as well. Hugs, |
Praying for Chloe's surgery today Came to see if there was an update on how little Chloe is doing. Has any one heard any news today? It is now past one in the morning Tuesday there in Florida, was mentioned previously that Chloe would most likely be undergoing surgery today, prayers for God to guide the Vet in whatever procedure needs to be done and get her safely through the healing process with no complications. I have not been able to get this happening out of my mind, I feel so sorry for this dear lady and hope she will come join YT after Chloe gets well, we then can all enjoy watching Chloe grow and hear the happy times they are having together, I pray this will come to be. Archie I also learnt to groom our Cassie after a mishap when she was a baby and never ever took her to be groomed after that. I have always done our girls that we have now, it really isn't hard, they may not look absolutely perfect with my grooming but what the heck, no worries from Mama doing it :) I know there are caring and great groomers out there, this sad happening was one that was with the opposite. So very sad, my heart feels for Chloe's Human Mom there, praying for her today too. What a wonderful friend Pat is, friends are a real blessing in this ole life, they sure help to make each day better. Thoughts and Prayers today Chloe with your surgery, Hugs from us both, Patti and Jack and Girls. |
I too, am saying prayers for a successful surgery for little Chloe today:hands: My thoughts will be with you all. |
Many Prayers going up for a successful surgery for little Chloe today. Keep fighting little one! |
praying for a successful surgery today |
Praying God directs the surgeons hands and helps Chloe's own immune system use the antibiotics that they will be giving her to fight off infection and cover her with His hand of protection. That is such a tender place for an injury with a large section of skin that will be removed. |
That brings tears to my eyes, that poor baby. I'm so glad I groom mine at home. I barely trust my vet and he is wonderful. I'm super protective and everytime I see something like this I just never want anyone else near my fur kids. It is so hard to protect them.. I feel so sad for this poor girl and pray she ends up ok. |
I hope this baby's surgery is going well... |
:hands:Just came across this post :( This is soooo sad.....I cannot help but cry for this little girl:cry: Sending prayers to her :hands: May God give this baby strength to get through this!! |

Just in to check on word about Chloe and if she was able to have the surgery today? My thoughts and prayers have been centered over this little one all morning, hope there will be good news when I check back later. Thanks Pat for keeping us updated on Chloe. So glad you found this wonderful Yorkie Family Group to post this great need in prayer for little Chloe, the prayers going up from the Yorkie Family here at YT are mighty, I pray for God's best to be for her. |
Chloe Update... So sorry I couldn't post sooner, they frown on it at work :-) I am just overwhelmed by the love, care, concern from you guys. And....Keep Up Those Yorkie Prayers....because they are working!! Chloe went to vet 4pm yesterday for her pre-op visit and the vet was surprised at the new skin and tissue that was growing since her Sat visit..so much that he put off her surgery for today, until at least Fri. He wants to see her again tomorrow (Weds), and make a determination at that time whether to proceed with surgery Fri. I cannot imagine the more horrific area not needing a skin graft...but he's the vet....and that may come later...but for now, things are looking up. Chloe is feeling better, altho she still shakes at times, but she is eating well and this morn she actually jumped upon the bed (was amazed when I heard that). She is still on all meds and when it's time for a pain pill, that seems to be when she shakes. I have told Chloe's mom about you wonderful Yorkie lovers and she has become overwhelmed by knowing all the support and love she and Chloe have here and wants to join when things get back on track. I will post another reply in a bit about the dryer, groomer, etc - don't want to make this too long. Many, many heartfelt thinks to you all - please keep sending those kind thoughts and Yorkie Prayers Chloe's way...she is far from being out of the woods. What Chloe is going thru has only energized me to help stop this negligence and abuse. The vet said when he used to rotate thru different vet practices, he would see about 10 burns a week (not to Chloe's extent, but nonetheless...groomer negligence) Sincerely Pat (mom to 3 BTs) and Chloe's friend |
that is great news - gosh i hope she does not have to end up having surgery that would be wonderful - thanks for keeping us posted on her recovery wow that is shocking what the vet said about burns from groomers - VERY SCARY all the more thanks to you for posting this valuable info to save others from this happening |
That is the most Horrific thing. That poor baby. I would be so angry at the groomers. How long did they leave her in there and what did have to say about this. I mean there is NOTHING they could of said that wouldn't of made me want to hit them!!! Awful. I agree that Coconut oil is amazing and they won't get sick if they lick it. |
