It sounded nothing like Pyometritis. You're girl is much to young, only being her 2nd heat. What sometimes happens is when females experience false pregnancies, they are left wide open and can contract an infection, which sounds like what has happened to your girl. Good your vet put her on antibiotics, it's what should be done when a female experiences a false pregnancy

Yes thats what the vet said and thats why she put her on antibiotics for now until we see her blood results which she will be doing this week. I'm just really glad that she is back to her normal self, its great to see her playing with her toys and very energetic

I am so glad your baby is feeling better. I just had my girl spayed this last week and my vet called to tell me my girl had pyometra. He first thought she was pregnant because of the enlarged uterus, but I told him that was impossible. Turned out to be full of infection. It is a serious infection, and we were very lucky to have found it, so I am glad your baby is doing well and is on antibiotics.

glad both your babies are ok - i have seen females with pyometra at one and 2 years of age on our yorkie groups - one died and the other one got in just in time so it definitely can happen in younger females

this was the second heat as her first heat was false pregnancy so do you think she had another false pregnancy?

so they did not do blood work to see white blood cell count? It depends on if cervix is open or closed as to how bad infection gets. Just to be sure i went back and did search on my yorkie group and the one that lived was 2 years old - here is more info

I am glad you are spaying especially after two tough heat cycles

yeah i bet it did - i just cannot believe this vet did not do blood work and is waiting on that as they can do inhouse blood test to see white blood cell count. Maybe they did though just glad this little one is ok and the antibiotics are helping

the concern i had was the back legs going out that was very concerning for me and fit the symptoms of this

True, but I will tell you I requested blood work, and my vet told me that her blood work looked great! It really pays to know your dog. When my vet called to tell me my dog was pregnant he literally wanted to close her back up, but I argued with him, literally, and told him it was impossible that she was pregnant. I know they have heard that a million times, but my dog is ALWAYS right by my side and she is always watched when she goes out, not to mention that we have a secure privacy fence. So, I assured him she was not pregnant and to continue with the spay and look for something else. So, after they removed her uterus they opened it, and found the infection.

wow scary good for you for being persistent i was the same way when vet said no way my dog was hypothyroid yet she lost all the hair on her neck and he said it happens on back and tail only and i said maybe she did not read the text book so i took her to dr jean dodds and sure enough her thyroid went from .78 t4free to .30 t4free in one year and normal for a yorkie is 1.0 so it pays to know there is something not right and be persistent. I am glad i did as low thyroid can lead to many problems including seizures and she has mvd. Good for you had you not had done that you may have lost your dog

My yorkie is acting very weird he is running around moving his head in a jerking motion and acts like he is scared to death this has been going on for hours now he has cateracs on both eyes he almost acts like he is blind. Please help
