We have an appt on Monday the 8th and I'm so relieved that we might have an answer soon.

Off topic but how would get you something out of your yorkie's eye? Bella gets hair in her eye sometimes and I can only imagine how much that would bug.
yes ucdavis is a teaching hospital how close is that to you ? Not sure about them for neurology as i know they are known for nutrition mostly but our dentist use to run the small animal unit there i will email him and ask about neurologist there and see if he has a recommendation.

are you trimming her hair or pulling up in a top knot? The safest thing to use per opthamologist for eyes is saline solution but are you sure this is not squinting related to what is going on right now? Is she squinting or rubbing her eye on carpet or scratching at eye? I would first take warm water on a wash cloth, cotton pad and wipe eyes and make sure no hair going in and if so cut it back - if she is rubbing or scratching at it put a cone on so she does not scratch her eye as that can be another issue to deal with.

let me know more on the eye what is going on

ok so i just called and it is $2500 for an mri there and a student does it with the neurologist over seeing them so that will be your call. I would be adimant you want her below and see what your vet can do but she will not do the work she oversees them. So you need to decide whether you want student doing it or a bc neurologist doing it and pay a little more and if you are going to do the mri you probably want that spinal tap done at same time but discuss with them that way you do not have to put her under more than once if they put her under

hoping the best for your little one and again so sorry you are going through all this

I called UCdavis and talked to the internal med person regarding getting Bella in. She said that a liver shunt could cause neuro symptoms also and the consult is $103 and $270 for an ultrasound. I figured we can start with that and see where that takes us. I can't believe the MRI is $2500 for students to do it. That's way expensive for "learning" students. If it comes down to having to see the neurologist, I'll rather take Bella to Roseville, CA for $2700 (including spinal tap).

We're seeing Dr. Queen in internal medicine on Monday.

Also, with her eye..I've actually seen a tiny piece of hair stuck in her eye and I couldn't get it out. It wasn't that it was just poking her but it was actually in there. I clip her up with a little clip but she has tiny hair that falls out.

you can check with liver shunt group but honestly i would save my money on the ultrasound and ims and go straight to neurologist as i really do not think this is liver related

u/s is only 60 percent accurate in seeing a shunt and the person reading it has to be really really skilled. You will not see MVD on a u/s. The only good thing is it can show the shape and size of the liver and if there are any bladder stones, but other than that, I am almost positive you will still be left with un answered questions. Have you joined Olgas yahoo group yet?

I just spoke to my friend whose dog had AAI and explained the head tilt. They had her running around doing scintigraphies for shunt etc and her baby was below 100 also and turns out all along AAI - she agreed neurological as i wanted to call her as she has alot of experience with neurological since her dog had this and went to neurologist here in so cal. She said they first did xray then mri and spinal tap. She sad the neurologists are so good at knowing this stuff before they even do testing they will know what is going on and I agree - just stinks it is so far away.

I'm actually going to call my vet tomorrow to refer me to the place in Roseville for the neuro. She recommended seeing internal medicine because of the liver shunt but I'll ask to be recommended for the head tilt.

Something just happened to Bella and I'm not sure what it was. My back was turned to her and the husband was facing her. Bella was on the carpet walking and I heard her crying and when I turned to look, she was on the carpet (on her belly). The husband said he saw he lay down, no shaking or anything. I thought it could be a seizure but he said he didn't see her shake. What could have happened?

not sure but i am real concerned as it seems like she is declining as you stated she is not going up stairs and now another symptom a petit mal seizure they usually freeze and then go on side no shaking and a gran mal seizure they shake all over. I hope you can get her to neurologist soon I really think you will get some answers and my fear is she needs steroids to get inflammation down that could be affecting her and making her worse - please try to get her in asap

is her belly swollen? is she eating, pooping, peeing otherwise acting normal and drinking?

I'm afraid bella could have had a petite mal seizure then. I'm so worried. I hate it how the places are only open on certain days for certain things and being 5-6 hours away is hard for me especially with my schedule also. I'm calling in to roseville neuro tomorrow and see if they can get us in on thurs since they said that's when they'll do an mri. The hubby can take her there since my schedule isn't working out with that. I'm hoping our vet can refer us there since its neuro and she wants us seeing internal medicine.

her eating is fine, no swollen belly, her pooping is more often now and more watery from the lactalous. She hasn't been drinking and her acting has been the same since her head tilt.
