No legitimate vet is going to accept donations on behalf of a dog he has never examined. How would he know if he could even treat her?

I think everyone needs to hold into their wallets.

Yes she needs to see a specialist, however, from what I have seen, a small pup (2lbs.) and as week as she is, because she hasn't been on the proper medicine, the Dr. I am sure, would want her to gain a little weight and strength.

Her liver can not process toxins, the toxins come from food, they don't just appear, so until she starts on the proper food, the proper amount and the proper spaced out meal times, is when those now small amounts of toxins can be properly handled. The Metro (antib's) helps with the bad bacteria and the Lactulose binds those smaller amounts of toxins in her body and rids them thru waste. The Demarian, is a liver aide. This is the proper protocol to Medically Manage a Liver Shunt, whether is be forever, or just until a successful surgery can happen.

Here is another thing, do we have solid test results that Melody does in fact a 1 Liver Shunt. She could very well have MVD, and that mean ONLY medical management, NO surgery.

Also, Dr. Center prefers Medical Management rather than jumping into Shunt Surgery...

But YES - if she hasn't seen a specialist, this is really where she has to start

Sorry, the doctor don't call that early.

I just wrote a long explanation on certain circumstances pertaining to Melody and lost the info.

I was on this computer online yesterday and placing calls to vet specialists to obtain information.
I got education about rescue and UT in Tenn.
Just to let know that this Dr. everyone is referring too is on vacation and not accepting only under certain conditions.

More to follow... just wanted everyone to calm down and take a breath.

Oh, I totally agree. This pup is very sick, and even if she is getting on track with Meds and Food, the owners need to have funds to care for her, and when she gets strong enough to go thru surgery, they have to have funds to pay for that surgery and anything else that may come about. And time is wasting that's for sure...A Specialist needs to see her, and that is the only person who can guide this pups care, properly....

Now, that we have calm down a little bit, I'll continue.
The specialist I spoke with yesterday all agree that Melody is probably in the best place she can possible be at the present. She has Krystal and Lilly and she really needs them. It would create more stress on Melody to remove her.
I talk with Krystal and she's taking her medication and special diet. Melody is not running into wall or having pain. The one thing she has going for her is, she not having pain or seizers. I told her if her condition changes to call the vet and get additional medications. Her vet feels that with the medications and the diet, it will take a few days to clear the toxins out of her system.
I"m not done yet, more to follow..
Don't want to lose all this information again.

Which Rescue are you refering to? Dr Tobias has assistance that CAN help. Have you contacted Dr Centers at Cornell? You need to start with this.Northern California Veterinary Specialists, Inc. / Nuclear scintigraphy

So you are saying that a busy specialist gave advice over the telephone about what's best for Melody without ever having examined her and did so for a person who doesn't even own the dog???

Just to let everyone know, Melody is under constant vet care. Her doctor has indeed run very expensive test on her and knows her condition. The main concern now, as someone mention about is her.... size and weight. When your dealing with a normal size yorkie 5-7 lbs., your talking a whole different story. Many of the specialist will not do a liver shunt on a very small yorkie unless the dog is surrender and then they don't really have to be responsible to the owner. Don't get upset... this is what I was told yesterday.

I don't know who this specialist, but I also don't know how he could make a judgement like that if you told him the WHOLE story and history.

Just one question, Kathleen: Are you signing on to care for all of Melody's care for the rest of her life if she stays with Krystal who could not afford to care for her and let her stay sick for six months? This is not saying Krystal does not care....This is pointing out the obvious. You must have good intentions....I just think you are not thinking clearly about this. I hope you read and reread what people have said. I know you must feel everyone is picking on Krystal...that is not the case.

THIS IS NOT ABOUT KRYSTAL.

Don't try to convince me that this puppy needs anything but good veterinary care. No human or pup bond is going to take the place of that. YOU have decided out of convenience to treat her with meds. You said that....that you wanted to get your surgery out of the way. You are trying to say that is not the case, but clearly it is. This puppy could have already been flown to a home/rescue that would have already taken her to a specialist. They would not be CALLING vets for medical advice!!!!!!!

Hi,
How well do you know this program and how it works? They were funded by the AkC for research... that's why the yorkies have to be surrendered and they only place in UT homes for a reason.

Kathleen, I gave you a place that can give Melody Scintigraphy. Do you know what that is? Melody needs this asap to determine a Shunt. What expensve test have been run? And by a vet. No way. Only a specialist can preform the test that are needed.
