My poor Melody

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your concerns for Melody.

This morning I called and talked to the Vet and she told me that Melody can start on her meds right away and that it will buy us some time until we are able to get surgery.

So I went to the vet and weighed her and can you believe it she is 2.6 lbs! Last time i weighed her about a month ago she was just 2 lbs.

I have been feeding her Natural Balance Orginal Ultra which is reduced calorie formula which is 16.5% Crude Protein. So I asked the vet about a better food for her and I got Royal Canin Renal LP which is Crude Protein 11.4% and it has High Energy. As soon as I got home I mixed some of her old food with the new food and she ate. She picked out the new stuff and ate all of it in her bowl and left the old stuff. I am so excited to see how this food does.

I gave her meds, she got Amoxil Amoxicillin Pediatric Drops. I give to her twice daily. She also got Lactulose Liquid given twice daily.


I just can not believe how generous Kathleen is. I adore her and I can not thank her enough for all the help she has given me. Thank you so much Kathleen!!

Thanks so much for the update. All we want is for your baby to get well, so that she can have the wonderful life she deserves in your home. We'll be pulling for her and provide assistance as soon as Kathleen sets everything up.

Just checking in on little Melody.

I'm happy to hear that she got the meds. Was it because of money that she wasn't able to get them in the first place? Or is this a new vet? I guess I'm confused. Either way I'm happy to hear that she's getting them.

I have read every post in this thread and I am in tears for 2 different reasons.
1. For that poor baby girl. I pray that God watches over her and her mommy. It breaks my heart to hear of a little one being so sick. Praying that she will now be on the road to recovery.

2. For the generosity, care, and concern from this Yorkie Talk "family".
Kathleen, you are an angel on earth. God bless you for all you are doing to help little Melody and her mommy.
The longer I am a member of this "family", the more I love it here. I truly wish that everyone that owns a yorkie would visit this site. So many knowledgeable, caring, supportive people here.
My heart is so full right now. With all of the bad things happening in this world......................this site just restores your faith in people. You all are awesome and I am so proud to say I belong to this family.

I woke up at 6am this morning and fed Melody as well as gave her meds. Right now at 11am she is doing her "walking" She walks around the house into walls and such. But right now it is not as bad as it normally is. I try to keep a eye on her. I used to put her in a small crate with a blanket when she is doing this, but I always feel so bad about it. I was just trying to keep her from hurting herself.

Just from last night she has had a big belly, normally you can see all her bones and my boyfriend and I noticed she looks really bloated or something. Her tummy is really big and kinda hard when I touch it. Its hard to explain so forgive me. We where thinking she hasn't went poo yet so maybe she bloated.

Sorry about not posting pictures of her but I did put them in my profile. The one picture of her when she is in a dress is when I first got her, before she was sick. Maybe today I will take more pictures and put them up on my profile.

Aww both of your girls are adorable! It's hard to tell by the pictures but are they the same age? From the same litter? They look soo cute!
