I can't imagine your pain my friend but I know God will heal it. I have a very small dog too that needs to be "SPAYED" and now I am scared stiff to have it done. I will certainly look into a lot of things before I have it done.

Actually I dont really know either but something about the different counts and enzymes and if that doesnt check out well they do xrays. My yorkie Molly had to have a toe amputation due to a bad infection that wouldn't heal. They adjusted her aneasthesia dose due to the murmur and used different drugs. They also let me know what they would do if this was "their dog". I can never remember all the medical jargon!

The OP has bred dogs. dion't you think if one is a breeder she should know the correct terminology. You Spade a garden, you Spay a dog. Just like those who say they got "hooked up" or "stuck together", or those who say she got her period.

Before breeding one should research the entire breeding process from Heat to Whelp. In doing so, they will learn the proper terminology. So when one comes on here using incorerect terms, we all know that they have not done any research.

My point, the correction was justified.

I know her personally and to attack her like this is uncalled for. She does know her breeding info, she has done her research, who gives a flying heap if she typed spade instead of spay. The point is attacking her is not going to bring her dog back or make her feel any better. She came here for support not ridicule. Have some compassion and until you know her personally or walk in her shoes, don't judge how she types on the computer.

My vet does with me knowing the risksand I only did because she more than assured me she would be fine. She said if she wasnt so sure she would recommennd against it.

This is what they used on my yorkie. Halothane.

Whereas the hypotension following hexamethonium 1 and 3 mg/kg i.v. was associated with a marked fall in peripheral vascular resistance and some reduction of maximum acceleration and cardiac output, the hypotension during ventilation with 1 and 2% halothane was associated with a large reduction in maximum acceleration (i.e. cardiac depression) and cardiac output with a relatively small fall in peripheral vascular resistance. In closed-chest dogs 1–2% halothane caused falls in arterial blood pressure and heart rate similar to those after hexamethonium 1–3 mg/kg i.v. without comparable impairment of either vagally-induced bradycardia or the contractions of the nictitating membrane due to sympathetic nerve stimulation. Ganglion blockade did, however, become prominent with concentrations of 4% halothane. It is thought that diminished central vasomotor tone, a reduction of the effects of the sympathetic mediator on blood vessels and a direct relaxant effect of halothane on vascular smooth muscle also contribute importantly to the peripheral vascular depression.

I have never seen anyone mention that their vet used that type of anesthesia or ever saw Elley May or one of the medical experts on here mention it.

Dogs with heart murmurs can be anesthetized. It all depends on the degree of the murmur and whether or not there are clinical signs that would make it riskier. I have had many pups with heart murmurs who needed dentals or altering and they were fine. It all comes down to measuring risk vs benefit.

When in doubt, always seek the opinion of a cardiologist.

UH, I only posted that link to show the percentages of dogs dying under anesthesia. You cannot take a few words out of it and run away with them.

I realize you are upset and want to blame your vet, but sadly what happened is a risk we all take when our pups need procedures done.

Unfortunately, your pup was one of a very small percentage of pups who die while undergoing routine procedures. It also happens in humans.

That is exactly right, my vet also suggests that for severe cases when in doubt! Why take a chance.
Both my girls have had surgery and did just fine but I was very aware of all the risks and recommendations.
Im very very sorry about your loss of Lexi, I couldnt imagine how you must feel........
