Care of Our Pets I read the thread of Molly last night and became very upset to think a vet would turn away an animal in need of emergency care. People need to realize our society is changing at all levels. We have families losing jobs, losing their home and living on the streets. It's affecting everyone, it doesn't matter what class you happen to fall. Our lives are changing and so will the way we live. Their's going to become a time when the family pet will be limited only to the rich. Think about it before you react and say, she doesn't know what she's talking about. Here in California, dogs are being shipped across this country to relocate because families are turning in their pets or just letting them out on the streets. LA County are having to put dogs and cats to sleep because of lack of homes and family aren't finanically able to have one. This is a sad world. Our own necessities are on the rise. Food, Health Care and just normal living expenses are continuing to climb. Everything is going up except income, depending where you fall. The eye opener came last June when I had to take Punken to visit the vet because of an emergency. He has been my vet for 23 1/2 years and I love this man because he always took exceptional care of my babies. Last June we received information about vet charge increases, just about the same time the credit cards did the same thing with interest rates. I've always paid my vet bill in cash or check and always in full. Never credit. Punken needed emergency surgery at the same time I received my Chemo for the month. I explain this situation to the doctor and it told me he would work with me on costs because I had high medicals I was having to pay for myself. My bill from him already was $295 plus medications. He quoted me a total amount of $650 that would include the $295. Considering my Chemo was $44,950 for the month and I have high risk medical. Premiums plus my part of what's not covered. This doesn't include PT/CT scans or costs he could see my delima. I'm I worried.... YOU Betcha He did the surgery on Punken and when I pick her up his wife meet me at the desk with the bill of $850 and the $295 wasn't included. I had already paid the $295. I tried to explain and she told me, sorry with the costs of everything we can't help you. I knew it wasn't the vet but her, after the almighty dollar. Don't be surprised if costs start raising because people are starting to stop visiting their local vets because of the costs. Just like anything else. Money talks... One thing about it... My Little Girls will always come first, no matter what. My children know this and are aware of my wishes.

WoW, I guess I have been fortunate as far as vets go . They have always let me make payments. When I lived in Ca I had a wonderful vet and here in Idaho, Well I can't say enough good things about my vet. But they know I rescue and pay out of my own pocket for all medical for them. And I have 5 dogs and 4 cats all with medical needs that no one else wants to deal with.I know both these vets would never turn away an animal in need. I have seen them both offer to keep the animal and treat them. The last was an italian greyhound who had a broken leg. She is now part of my vets very large pet family and sleeps with his son every night. My vets know from the second I walk in the door, I would sell my soul to save my babies and I have no shame when it comes to finding the funds for treatment. I am sorry this happened to you. And you are rite about the almighty dollar. Some people will never see past it. What has this world come to? My prayers for your full recovery.

| I'm very sorry for all you have been and are going through. Thank you very much for sharing your story. I think it is important for people to see and realize some of the things that others go through in thier lives to help in understanding that while someone may not have the means to take care of thier furry family members does not mean that they started out in that position but instead could have become a victom of the times or had extrenuating circumstances that put them where they are right now. I know that if we were to have an emergency with our pets right now we would be in trouble. We have not always been in this situation and I am not about to get rid of my family members because of it. If something were to happen I would do what I have to do to make sure they are cared for no matter what but it would be a struggle. Hugs for your girls and prayers for recovery

Shame on me I forgot to mention Buddy. He's our 2 yr old gelding who was born with both front legs severely deformed. Marked for death and is now MaMas handsome boy and Daddys best buddy who loves to chase us around the pasture like a dog and get hugs and kisses. He's never going to be a trail horse but the equine vet here actually looked for a scar when we told him about his leg surgeries. He was shocked he couldn't tell he'd had surgery. And WSU told us he had severe arthritis and we needed to put him down this past summer. Turned out he's had a disc out in his neck since birth. One visit from my Chiropractor and problem solved. So you see I will stop at nothing to help an animal. No matter how big or small they seem to have my address in their pocket. Or maybe it's the neon SUCKER sign on my forehead.

Good Morning and Happy New Year's to All Just wanted to thank all of you for your responses. I get upset when our pets health and safety is neglected because money matters too much to some people. I didn't put any information our on this thread because I want sympathy because I'm happy and content with what life will give me in the future. It would be useless to sit and worry about what's going to happen because If I do that, I've miss out of the joy of living. Especially all the love and happiness that Punken Pie and Breese give me on a daily bases. God knows when my time will come, so why worry. I'm not missing out now because anything could happen to anyone if they were sick or not. The only thing we all have is today and it's Beautiful. I'm one that never believed in Pity Parties because I don't allow my friends to know too much about my medicals. It's better that way, they treat me as if I just one of the bunch and that's the way I like it... I only tell you guys because I don't have to see you everyday and you can't tell...lol All of you have a Happy and Safe New Year's Eve. Wishing you all the love and happiness in the Year to come.
