| AAI puppy....I need some help I have recently rescued a 2 lb, 5 month old yorkie puppy who unfortunately has AAI. He was going to be put down because his owner couldn't emotionally or financially afford treatment. I agreed to take him and give the little guy a chance. He has been in a neck/back brace for 4 weeks and having cold laser therapy twice a week. He seems to be doing pretty well most of the time although he will sometime tip over and doesn't have total motor control of his back legs. He is not in pain, eats well and seems to be a happy puppy. I feel so bad for him when he stumbles but then I have to tell myself that HE doesn't feel bad for himself so I shouldn't either as long as he isn't in pain. I want to explore the option of surgery for him, but i'm concerned about his size and his age. I would really appreciate any advice that perhaps someone with experience with this problem could give me. I made a committment to little Oscar and I'm madly in love with him already but I want to make sure that I am doing what is right for him. To be honest, I have days when I'm not sure that I am indeed doing the right thing for him. Today is one of those days. If anyone has the time or desire to give me advice....I would greatly appreciate it. |

| There are several here on YT that have dealt with AAI. One is Vicky who has a little guy named Bleu Boy Barber. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/member.php?u=26599 He had the surgery and is doing very well. He was also quite small. She has not been on since October. You might want to sent a PM. She might have it set up that her PM's show up in her e-mail. Hopefully, some others who have gone through this will see your thread. One last thing....blessings for adopting this little boy. ~Joanne~

| I personally know 2 that have been doing well and living pretty normally for about 2 years using neck braces. Both are under care of neurologists at Angell Medical Center in Boston. PM me and I'll tell you how to contact the owners of these two. Good luck. |

| Hello~ Let me just say to you I am so happy you have came to Yorkie Talk to discuss your situation and get support. You have come to a great group of loving members and hopefully one of us will be able to help you... It sounds like to me you are skeptical due to your babies age and weight. This is so understandable. I will admit that is the number one thing I was concerned about as well. Do not fear. I have done alot of research and this weight and age is very common. BLEU BOY BARBER was this weight and this age... I know the surgery CAN be done. All surgeries are different. Our case was a success. I have heard of 2 cases that were not. The mortality rate statistically is high but to be honest with you I have to say it is worth the chance to me. I was told $ 10,000 and he will most likely die and BLEU BOY was up and running and has been 4 hours after his surgery. I caught his very early. I took him everywhere with me and I knew his every move. I do not want to tell you get the surgery and then something happen but in all honesty I want to see your baby get the surgery cause my gut instinct tells me ALL WILL BE WELL... I would be more than willing to talk with you over the phone just send me a message for my phone number or email me at vickicorinne@msn.com Please let me know how I can help you . I have bills to give you quotes I have others you can talk to for advice. I have a journal you are welcome to read. I have websites to refer you to for financial assistance. The resources on this subject is many and I would be willing to share with you everything I know so you can get the best help and advice possible.. GOD BLESS YOU HUGS Vicki BLEU BOYS MOM

| My rescue has Posey...she was not able to have the surgery...she was too small (1lb or so) among other things so they (Angell Memorial) felt she was not a canidate for surgery. She had to wear casts for several months. She now only wears a removable no bite collar to protect the neck. She is able to get around no problem. She loves to play and run. She is a fiesty little thing. You can read about her on our site at Yorkies Inc. Placement Service

| Yes...we are so lucky with Posey. She really is a miracle. We had 3 vets tell us that we should put her to sleep.... you should see her run and play now... I also wish the person would post again so we could hear how the pup is doing.

I did not know that someone on here knew Posey. I have followed her story since it was first posted on your rescues web site. I have wanted to send an email just to say what a wonderful thing that was done for her. I wanted her so much! I have wished that I lived closer to her many times. She is a beautiful little girl.

I have followed her story from the beginning. She deserves to have the best life. I dont think the OP has posted again. I am worried about this baby too. I hope they will get back on line, or contact Vickie. I know she has alot of information concerning AAI.

| hi everyone! roriee and i are doing ok.. roriee still wears her neck brace at all times and she has gained some weight and is happy and moving around again on all 4 legs!!!! she seems to not have any pain but she does still act sensitive around her mouth area but otherwise she bosses me around like the slave to her every whim i am i have sweaters on her to keep her warm and i have been trying to make sure she gets a bit of exercise since i am a bit worried that she is gaining too much weight. she has porked out a bit LOL she really likes that hepatic ls mixed with pedisure. her surgery will be in the future but right now she is doing well and i do not want to rock the boat. all the puppies that have the AAI are different and i am not familar enough to advise anyone on what to do. i just know that i am living with it everyday with my baby and praying i am doing right by her. loving her, nursing her and being very aware of any changes in her condition is all i can do right now. i do not let her bend her neck down to even drink water. i hold the bowl for her and i also hand feed her every kibble. i hope everyone has a great new year. i have joined the atlanta yorkie meetup group and will meet other people here in town with yorkies soon. i know that roriee and i will really enjoy meeting other people with their babies.
