| My precious little Princess Pixie Pooh may be blind. I'm so very sad as i write this Over the last 2-3 days i noticed a change in her behaviour...a little unsure of herself, bit more clingy maybe, jumping more at loud noises. I noticed she seemed to be bumping into things more on her right side and when i hold a treat in front of her face she can't see it. She isn't chasing toys like she used to....I quickly realised with great sadness that my gorgeous little girl may be going blind...she is just 2 years old. I had the day off work yesterday so spent the day watching & assessing her and we took her to our vets this afternoon. He spent a long time looking in her eyes and said her pupils are reacting to light but not as much as they should be and that the right eye is the worst, so i was right about that. He took her temp which appeared to be on the 'high side' of normal. She hasn't been pawing at her eyes or seem to be in any discomfort. We have been referred to an Opthamologist and have an appointment monday morning. Otherwise she seems to be coping very well...i'm incredibly protective of her and i'm watching her every move...which i always did anyway as she is a tiny 3lbs...she is still the picture of health...eating well as usual and making her way around house & garden without too much trouble..I think she has some sight left at the moment, as she does follow some movement and make her way in & out of the back door to go into the garden without too much trouble...i'm really hoping something can be done...but if the worst comes to the worst i know we can get through this and i will make it my priority to see that she has a long, happy & comfortable life...she's my precious little girl...even more so now. Whats makes this even harder on us is that we have been having a bad time with my husbands health over the last few months...roll on 2010, hopefully it will be a better year for us! I'll keep you updated on her progress YT friends Love & hugs, Kerry & Pixie Pooh. xxx

| Oh thatis sad. I'm so sorry. I hope something can be done for her. But in the event that she goes totally blind, you might want to think about getting another yorkie to act as her seeing eye dog. She would follow the other dog by scent. I have seen horses do this. |

My little Shadow Donating YT Member | I'm so sorry to hear this about yr little Pixie. I hope & pray that it isn't as bad as you suspect. Remembering Pixie in my Prayers! If she does lose the majority of her sight, they really do adapt so well. Before Bella, I had Sarah. She was 12 when I lost her. The last few yrs, she was partially blind, but she had no problems at all getting around the house, even going out the back door to the fenced in area with me.

| I am sorry to hear about your baby. I had a schnauzer who went totally blind and he did great. He ran outside and down the back steps with no problems even though he was blind. The vet told us there was eye surgery that would help him but because of his age and other health problems we opted not to have the surgery. I hope the Opthamologist will have good news for you. Good luck.

| Thankyou everyone for your kind words and prayers...it means such alot to me right now. I am amazed by this little dog...last night she was chasing...yes, chasing! a toy! she even jumped over my sons legs! I was soooo excited! it gave me more hope...i'm convinced she still has fairly good sight in one eye at least...she doesn't always see everything you throw for her, sometimes she will miss it...but she certainly seems to have improved over the last couple of days and is acting like her old self...yapping to be lifted up, demanding food & terrorising unsuspecting passers by that walk past our back gate...so this has all given me a bit more hope. Had to change her appointment from the monday morning to tuesday morning because hubby's work were being awkward.. it's only a 24 hour delay but i'm anxious to get her seen asap. Today is warm, bright & sunny so i'm going to take her for a quiet walk to see how she gets on. i'll update you all as soon as i can...much Love..Kerry & Pixie Pooh xxxx

| Kerry, I am so sorry to hear about Pixie's loss of sight. Does she have any other symptoms, like circling or unsteady on her feet, head pressing, weakness in hind legs?? My little Brooke was diagnosed with a brain disease that has all those symptoms and in some dogs it causes blindness. I am just throwing this out there since GME is fairly common in yorkies and if you are having other symptoms it could be more than her eyes. I wish nothing but the best for your Pixie and your husband.
