| Diarhhea and just not himself. Toby is 6 months. I am switching him to Orijen puppy. I have switched him gradually over about 10 days. I noticed at the start of last week his stools had darkened, got firmer and smaller than when on the previous food, so I assumed he was digesting it ok. Thursday to Saturday his stools have started getting looser - yellower, not diahorrea but not far off. He was also pooping in the house once a day every day last week. He hasnt done this in months. He is teething really badly at the minute (losing teeth)- this knocked Millies housetraining out for a few weeks, could this cause loose stools and pooping in the house? Yesterday it turned into proper diarhhea, so I put him on boiled rice and chicken. He had two more episodes of diarrhea before bedtime last nite. He then threw up the chicken in the middle of the night last night. Since then (12hours ago), he hasnt had a bowel movement, or been sick. He is still eating, but doesnt really want to drink. I am syringing him some water to keep him hydrated. Is has been sleeping most of the morning. (which he would do a lot anyway) but just doesnt seem himself. Is this normal after possibly changing foods too quick? Or could it be something totally unrelated? Can you also suggest something to make the water more appealing?

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | You could sweeten the water a bit and see if that helps. If he seems shaky/lethargic/sickly - I'd probably take him to vet for a stool sample. He may just have a tummy bug too. Otherwise, if you think this is just food - do you still have the old food? If yes, you could try putting him back on that and see what happens.

| Boy this one is a little tough and I think if it was me I would take him to the vet. 10 days should be enough time for a change over. Is there any mucus in the poop? Have you taken your little one out of the house and if yes, where? Did you let them on the ground? Could it be coccidia or gardia?

| The vet will prob give you meds. There may be something in the food that isnt siting with your puppy. When i switched baci over he started getting the runs and i switched his diet and tried a different food and it did the trick.

| He is more like himself this evening. He has a real appetite, but I am just going to keep him on rice chicken and yogurt for a few days, and then start to introduce the orijen again slowly. His stools are a bit more solid, but still very yellow and definitely not normal. I will see how he is tomorrow morning, and reassess then if a trip to the vet is necessary. He is up to date on vaccinations, and wasnt allowed out until he was fully vaccinated. Thanks for the advice.

| During the night Toby vomited twice and had diarrhea twice. I took him to the vets first thing. The vet was really good. He explained all the different causes for the diarrhea. He was going to treat it as a nutritional problem first. He gave him an anti biotic injection, and a paste to line his stomach and restore the balance of the gut. He is not to get fed today to allow the paste to settle in. Tomorrow he should get 5 small meals (chicken or rice), and stools should start returning to normal. If this doesnt happen, I have to bring in a stool sample for testing for parasites etc. He is still in good form most of the time, so hopefully its just a nutritional problem.
