| Pancreatitis Hi All! One of my babies has been diagnosed with a GI disease. They dont know for sure but the enzymes that are elevated in her bloodwork are the ones that would lead the vet to believe it could be pancreatitis or IBD, or a # of other GI dieases. So that being said, we KNOW there is something wrong, but we cant be sure what. So our first plan of action is to change her food to low fat, pronto. I am VERY hesitant to put her on the prescription foods, so does anyone have any good suggestions for lowfat foods? She is currently on Merrick, but i guess its too rich. I may post this in health/diet as well. Thanks!! |

Therapy Dog Donating Member | Oh I am so sorry to hear about your baby with pancreatitis. My Izzy was diagnosed with pancreatitis/SIBO and IBD since last November. She was on The Honest Kitchen which is a great food but to keep her alive I had to bite the bullet and she is on Purina EN canned. She is on several supplements and Tylan. I also talked with a holistic vet and nutrionist and in Izzy's case they all agreed to keep her on the canned. Please do what's right for your baby even if it's going on the RX foods for a little while to stabalize her. We spent thousands of dollars to keep Izzy alive (she has had 4 episodes since November 08 and right now she is going on 3 months episode free since we swtiched to Purina EN and giving her Tylan). We had every test done to help guide us on treatment plan. What blood tests has your vet done? Keep us posted.

| It's a blood test that can tell you whether it's pancreatitis. It would come back 0-200...no, 201-400...maybe, 401-???...yes, I think. It should be run when pancreatitis is suspected along with possibly a TLI and vitamin b's.

| Bailey has chronic pancreatitis too and I also consulted with a holistic pet nutritionalist. Bailey is on Natural Balance Fish & Potato, we also give him 1 oz of cod a day, canned pumkin, green beans, supplements and he he takes synovi vitamins for his LP. Bailey has has IBD, so he can't have chicken. He's been ok for 2 months since he's been on this diet (fingers crossed) but it's been expensive. I'm willing do do anything and pay anything to keep my baby alive tho. The supplements are very important because the help to digest and process the food. The holistic pet nutritionalist name is Susan Davis and I highly reccommend her. Here is her website information. Holistic Veterinarian Pet Nutritionist Holistic Pet Care She does phone appointments too, which is how I did Bailey's appt. She is very thorough. Good luck!

| Thanks! I need all the help I can get! One thing I've noticed... Bailey was starting to get sick (throw up) a few times after eating and it was because the pumpkin had mold on it. Susan said the pumkin doesn't last more than 2-3 days, so watch that closely if anyone is feeding it to their babies! The mold was so little I barely noticed it, but I still saw it!

Dr. Perricone's List of Pro-Inflammatory Foods - Oprah.com my 3 vomit white potato so many dogs cannot tolerate white potato so it builds up in system and they start throwing up - i use to pill my dd with white potato and after metacam messed her up she now cannot eat white potato, dex has ibd and has always vomitted on white potato diets, and demi i have given white potato and she throws it up and she has not health issues. Just a thought as sweet potato is better than white potato | |

| the tli tests for epi and the spec cpli tests for pancreatitis but also my internal medicine specialist stated they are finding dogs with high amylase and lipase along with high spec cpli with no symptoms of pancreatitis have ibd and i believe ibd in small intestines and pancreatitis go hand in hand as they are right next to each other so if say white potato inflames intestine which happened to dex then it sets off the pancreas and pancreas controls the insulin in the body which is another reason white potato is bad as it converts to sugar in body and why diabetics should not have white potato so for two reason i do not like white potato for ibd and pancreatic dogs. If a dog gets pancreatitis too many times they can get diabetes or epi. Another thing i read in whole dog journal is dogs that test high on triglycerides after 12 hr fast are more prone to pancreatitis as they already have high fat content in blood and my dex had high triglycerides on 12 hr fast. |
