| My mill rescue is "freaking" out Just a quick background - we added Lane to our family almost 7 months ago. She was a rescue from a puppymill bust and estimated to be around 2 when we adopted her. She has come a long way in a short time and we think that is in large part due to Rory, our yorkie that we have had since she was a baby. Rory is about to be 2, so we think they are about a year apart. Anyways, they sprayed my building for bugs yesterday. I feel pretty certain this is not the first time they have sprayed since we have had Lane, but I can't be sure. The girls go to doggie daycare everyday while we are at work, so when we all returned home Lane went into the master bath and then came running out tail tucked, sniffing. We couldn't figure out what it could be, and then we realized the only thing different is that the bug guy had come. Rory is acting 100% normal, and we don't smell anything. She isn't any better this morning in terms of being more confident - she is running around almost aimlessly tail tucked - it is so sad to watch. She is still eating but not right out of her bowl. My boyfriend had to stand in the middle of the kitchen and feed her her food, but she was starving she afraid to eat out of her bowl like normal. I know the bowls are clean because we do pre-made raw for dinner and you have to scrub the bowls to prevent the spread of bacteria. I guess our theory is the pesticide might remind her of something they used when she was in the mill. She is also back to barking at every little sound, just like she did when we first got her. I don't know what to do to help, but it is breaking my heart. Also, I thought I'd mention my boyfriend took them for a walk last night just to get her out of the house and she acted fine on the walk. It's probably worth mentioning that on Wednesday the doggie daycare called right after I got in to work and said Lane had bloody diarrhea. This is extremely unusual for her to have any sort of loose stool. I immediately took her to the vet where they felt very certain the blood was from the colon and not further up in her digestive system. They gave her an anti-diarrheal injection (rather than repeated doses of immodium, b/c her poop is usually almost too firm) and an antibiotic, metronidazole, two times daily. Almost immediately after the injection she started perking back up, has been eating and drinking normally (well, BEFORE the scare, but we are making sure she eats as she has an appetite. I doubt this is related, but I suppose it somehow could be. Her poops are back to normal from what we have seen, and the daycare is very good about letting know if there is any change too. The vet did mention if she started to lose her appetitie and refuse to drink or started to vomit, we should bring her back in as she could end up with HGE. I don't know what else to do to help her, but she is almost frantic running around. I am watching my girls on the webcams, and they are acting normal running around and playing or else laying on the handler's lap. I really think it is something to do with our place. It really makes me wonder what kind of pesticide they are using - of course they tell you it is safe for dogs, but I can tell you I won't be letting them spray again. Okay, HELP! Any suggestions?

| I have no explaination what could have happened but something similar happend Wed night to Buddy as well. Everything was fine when I got home we walked for 25mins and back home to eat. I put his food down and he would not go near it. This is not Buddy. He ran down the hall and under the bed! Very strange. Then he ran to the hall closet again and thinking he had to go again, it was only 10 mins since we came in I took him back out. He did nothing but was fine. Back home and back under the bed. This is not my dog. The only thing I could think of is perhaps he was barking during the day and someone banged on my door and scared him. I can't think of anything else. He got better later during the night and then ate about 1 1/2 hrs later. Who knows what goes through thier minds. I am sure something different occured during your absense and just scared her. Hope she's better today. Your wonderful for rescuing her. Bless your heart and hers too. |

I keep watching the webcams at daycare, and she is chasing after her "big" sister to get the ball. They are in the blue tanks - Lane is almost right in the middle of the screen and you can see her tail is UP! 20090710093252.JPG

| Don't you wish these guys could talk, especially our rescues? I agree it sounds like something brought back memories of her past, poor thing. Hopefully whatever this is will pass and Lane will be back to normal soon. Can you spritz the areas she seems afraid of with a scent familiar and reassuring to her, like a bit of your shampoo watered down or the laundry soap you wash your clothes in? Maybe it's the scent of the exterminator himself, not the pesticide she is afraid of. |

| Hi. I would call the exterminator to see what they could recommend to remove the odor. As the stuff is sprayed into the cracks of a building overspray gets left on the walls. A bowl of straight vinegar will refresh the air in a room, and a 5% bleach and water solution spray will wipe out nasty smells from poop and stuff and is safe when dry (dries to a harmless salt). Just check with the exterminator first so to ensure it won't cause another reaction with their product. Or they may have a better suggestion. Also, women's douche will eliminate male cat urine odor (yeah) and leaves a pleasent smell .... might cut the bug spray.... may need to board the pup and air out extradays ... Stress to Yorkies can cause colitis, diarrhea, tummy trouble ... my Vet calls mine 'Colitis Queens"

| Boy I would like to know more about the webcams, that is so cool you can watch the girls at the daycare. Is it hard to install, I think you mentioned you have it at home too. I would love to set up a camera in my home too. Is it hard to do what kind of system do you need?

The feed from the daycare just requires some Active X controls to be set up in your IE browser - not much luck getting it to work with Firefox since it doesn't have Active X (that is NOT the technical way to explain it, heh). I don't know about setting one up at home though. I am pretty sure I have read where someone here has done that...that sure would be neat!
