| Im so happy she is home and doing ok, It sounds like they are charging you to much though, I had to take jasp in for his IV treatments and it didnt cost me near that amount, he was much older then your lilly but only 1.9pds he was on all the meds and food mentioned in the above post, The latulose will help with her pain as far as pooing, It will be very very soft, they have no control over this, Im so sorry , Im in mich as well, and i know its very hard to find a vet here thats experienced in LS, Your best bet is MSU , Prayers are with you |

No one wants to "bitch" you out. She is lucky to have you! None of us knew any of this until our babies went through it and we learned by experience. Try the liver shunt diet and lactulose for a day and see if she improves and then go from there....do not give her anymore meat proteins...try cottage cheese, egg whites, yogurt, fresh fruit or veggies, also. My prayers and with you - I know how hard this is. Last edited by Lolasmom1211; 07-03-2009 at 05:31 AM. | |

| Oh Becky, I'm so happy she was okay through the night. She is so lucky to have you. I'm sorry it's taking such a toll on you too. This has to be a nightmare for you. We are all praying for Lily Kisses and hope she gets better with ever minute. I'm sorry I can't offer your any medical advise, but I will be praying for her. Please give her some kisses from Calleigh and me. Love, Carol

| update on lily .sorry taking me so long to get on here but ive been so busy and tired. lily has never had another seizure since the first. she has gotten stronger everyday. she is off iv s and is eating and drinking. she only threw up once the day of the seizure. she did not have any loose stools as a matter of fact today was day 3 no poop at all i called vet he said quarter teaspoon mineral oil mixed in her food. i did it and 15 min later she pooped a turd as long as her intestine im sure .shes acting more like herself now running playing and im so elated.but fearful this will happen again. vet told me to not change her diet if she is eating the meat protein and not having any more problems that he thinks its unlikely she has liver shunt problem as he says it dont just stop on its own .and the antibiotics would not stop it .so what do you guys think i did get a copy of her labs and liver levels i will post tomorrow im to tired tonight. could it be possible she had a cold or something and then hypogly. seizure so severe she almost died? i m still waiting on distemper results but i read somewhere the test s have false neg. all the time. and she does not have the coughing and resp. symptoms they describe. i told my vet i want answers he said we will do liver shunt test when we can if normal we may never know what happened he said she could even have sniffed squirrel poop from our shoes and got bacteria infect. that alot of the time you never get a dx. they just get better or die. what the???? im so confused. but thank you all so very much .i love all of you. |

| I am so glad Lily is doing so much better, I'm sure you are exhausted. I don't know anything about her health crisis, but wanted to let you know I am still praying for a complete recovery for her. Hugs to you.

| I am so glad Lily is dong better! What a great job you have done with her! Don't worry about any more tests or an official diagnosis now. Just continue to do what you are doing to get her better. It could be a combination of several things as you said because she is so young and vulnerable. Lily should have a bile acids test at 20 weeks anyway as all Yorkies should since shunts are so common. Did you know that Yorkies are 36 times more likely to be born with a liver shunt than all other breeds combined? |

| Oh dear Becky, I'm so glad to hear your sweet Lily Kisses is doing so much better. Thank God! It must be wonderful to see her running & playing. I told Calleigh about your sick little girl and told her we needed to pray for her. That sounds silly, but I bet you understand. I sent my human prayers and hopefully she sent her doggie prayers. We will continue to pray for your little girl. Please keep us updated. You are one super MOM. I hope you'll be able to get some rest soon. Love, Carol & Calleigh

| Becky, I don't want to worry you but with liver shunt the ammonia will slowly build up in the dog's system and make their bodies toxic. When this happens the dog will display symptoms like you puppy did. The dog will quit eating for awhile and the ammonia levels will go down and the dog will appear normal again. Then the cycle can start all over again. Also when dogs with compromised livers get constipated and don't have regular bowel movements that also makes the ammonia levels build up faster. I pray that your girl does not have liver problems but I recommend you watch her closely. If she has another episode then I recommend you immediately put her on a low protein diet designed for liver compromised dogs until you can get the bile acid test done. I would also look for a vet that can do the test at a much cheaper price. I am praying your baby makes a speedy recovery. |
