YT 500 Club Member | Glad to hear Moses is doing well. I too owned a Yorkie with three legs, Hope lost hers after she jumped from the counter top trying to avoid having a bath. I only turned away for a second and she'd jumped, breaking her front leg. She was operated on the very next morning and returned with a pin and cast. I was too inexperienced to question about the cast, she developed gangrern and had emergency surgery to remove the leg.We collected her on Saturday morning by bus, one ignorant woman actually said 'it was desgusting and she should be put to sleep', why? She was 11months old when this happened and she lived for another 11 years, thourouly spoilt by everyone. She was he bravest little dog I ever knew and never let her disability stand in her way, in fact if one of the others were sick she was like a little nurse to them, staying close and comforting them. Its beem 3.5 years since we lost her but her bravery will be for ever remembered. |

I am really sorry to hear about your Baby's broken Ulna. I would just continue to Love and care for him as you have been. My Belle fractured her Calcaneous (heel) 10 days ago. She junp off the couch as she always does with no problem. She is just too quick to prevent. She landed wrong and immediately was in pain and limping. We were in Pet ER till 3 am. After x rays and casting we went home. ER vets recommeded Ortho consult for surgery to pin and repair ($3500. ) we just cant afford at the moment. Followed up with regular Vet on Monday. she agreed with surgery but did say we can remove the cast in 1 week and she can feel how the bone is healing. We will re x ray in 1 week. and evaluate again. I sure hope her and Moses heal well. I'll include your in Prayers. I feel awful that I cant opt for surgery, but we love and care for her and she won't lack that from us. Vet said she would do just fine if we had to amputate, of course I wouldn't want this but she'd if we had to do this we'd love her even more so. I'll be thinking of you and Praying for proper healing. | |

The 3 Musketeers Donating Member | My Max broke both of his front legs. My vet put him in casts for 4 weeks and then when she took them off, discovered that his legs were not healing and he had developed gangarine. She then put him in splints for 8 weeks. His legs never healed and she recommended that I put Max down. She said that dogs can survive well on three legs but not two. Just for this vet it cost $1800. I took him to another vet who specializes in small dogs and he said that he could put pins and plates in his legs and he would be fine. The only delay was getting the open pressure sores healed and the gangarine. Whatever YOU decide to do with your pet is up to you. Don't let anyone pressure you into giving him up. He's yours and its up to you to make the decisions as what you want to do. When I was going through my problems with Max, that seemed to be the recommendation that I give him up to a Yorkie Rescue. He was my dog and I was gonna decide what to do with Max and because I loved him so much, I would not give him up to a rescue. Sorry about the rambling. But give hugs and kisses to your kids.

| moses I am so glad to hear Moses is doing well after surgery. Sorry he lost a leg....but I have seen so many dogs do well with only three. And no matter what you are his Mom and no one better to love and care for him than you. You made the right decision for your situation. Me and my Belle go back to the vet for a re cast and check up tomorrow. Hopefully, her heel is healing well and we wont be faced with the same decision, but if so than we will love her even more so...just as your Moses. He is blessed to have you. I'm so sorry that someone would suggest you turning him over to a rescue. He is yours and you will care for him the best. |
