| PUt him down for cushings? Wow, it's new vet time. Is it adrenal or pituitary?

| My sister's Cairn Terrier had Cushings Disease. She spent thousands of dollars on Cat Scans, x-rays, medications before he was finally diagnosed with Cushings. When Chewy first got sick he started to have seizures once in a while then the seizures were quite frequent. The vet said that there really wasn't any hope for a cure and there would be a time when you would just know it was time to let him go. When the seizures got really bad and were back to back with 6-8 times a day she knew it was time to say good-bye. Chewy was only 5 years old.

| My yorkie lived for several years with cushings. While there are medications they have some bad side effects and I chose not to use them. She did very well and wasn't in any pain because of the hormones flooding her system. She died 3 weeks after her 16th birthday. You don't say how old this dog is but if it is a young dog it may need to be treated. I too, would reccommend a change of vets |

| For a month now, he haven't been doing good at all... not going for walk, panting, constipation, not eating much. He's been to the vet many times. He have been throwing up since last night... so this morning the vet told her to put him down... he is 13.... I don't know what to do... I don't see myself advising her to let him go... I am hoping to found something she can try... She doesn't want to give up... |

| If it is adrenal surgery could've been attempted but it may be too late. With pituitary drugs are used. Is this dog on drugs and which ones? Has the owner gone to an internist because that's about the best option right now?

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | So, I'm not sure I understand -- he has *had* Cushing's for awhile and is now decompensating? Or, he was *just* diagnosed w/ Cushing's? First, be sure the vet is comfortable w/ Cushing's, bc it is complicated. Tests need to be run to see which kind he has - do they know? (adrenal vs. pituitary) Both kinds can be managed w/ meds-and at his age, I don't know that I'd opt for surgery anyway - even if it was possible (too risky in his condition). Why are they saying to put him down when Cushing's is treatable?

Donating YT 30K Club Member | My pomm had Cushings for almost 3 years fro symptoms to end of her life. She had good days and some not so good. There are medicines out there but sometimes the treatment is worse than the disease. We had to let Maya go without treatment for close to 2 years and she did pretty good. A lot of panting, hunger and thirst. Your friend will know when it is time.

| Thanks guys. Buster haven't really eat anything for over 2 weeks...The vet think the dog has to many health issues to work on. 13 years old, It is old for a pit bull. I when to see him last night. It was really sad to watch him. I don't think the dog would survived surgery. Poor him... Awful. He was trowing up his water each time he drink a little. Lying down panting, He don't walk much anymore. He also has really bad arthritis so it's not helping. My friend keep on asking me what she should do... She is trying so hard to be positive... She is going to take him for more test at the emergency clinic Today. I told her: "It's your dog Sue, you'll know when it will be time to let him go". But inside, I was thinking... sorry to tell you but I think it is time ... I just couldn't tell her.. It's to hard.... |

| I would get another opinion. However, the vet may be right. 13 is old for a pit bull. And his symptoms seem quite severe. I would not delay in getting the second opinion. If the dog should be euthanized, you don't want to keep him in pain for longer than necessary. |

| awwww, I'm so sorry but he really sounded like he was suffering. We hate to say good bye but we hate it even more to see them suffer. Rainbow Bridge has him with no more pain or suffering. Carol and Jemma |
