| I know he's in pain A couple of weeks ago, I noticed Zaccheus was running strangely, and said something to DH. He said that he always ran that way, so I let it go. But Zacchie has stopped jumping up on the bed. At first I figured it was because he knew I would help him, so he was being lazy. But yesterday he wouldn't even jump up on the couch. I checked him all over, and his right hind leg or hip seems to be the cause of some pain. I can extend his left leg all the way straight, but when I try to extend his right, he softly whimpers and trembles. After looking through here, and doing some research, I think he may have hip displasia, which I understand is pretty rare in small breeds. I gave him some Metacam, and will give him another dose this afternoon. I'm trying to see if he may have just pulled a muscle, or just be sore for some reason. His vet is not in today, so I will take him in tomorrow morning for x-rays if he's not feeling better. Right now he will run and walk on it, but when he stands, he holds it up ever so slightly. Any other ideas?

| My Piper was not jumping on things, kind of walking a little hunched and then started to carry her right leg off and on. Took her to the vets and the vet knew it was her hip and recommended x-rays. She had Legg Perthes Disease which affects the ball of the femur that fits in the hip socket. The bone isn't getting enough of a blood supply and it starts to die. Piper had a couple bone chips floating in the socket and the ball of the femur was pitted, cracked and malformed. She had surgery 4 months ago and is doing great!

| I just got off the phone with Zacchie's vet. (love him! he called me back on his day off!) He wants to see Zacchie in the morning. I told him all about it, and he said he'd wager it's a luxating patella. The problem is, I know what that feels like, and it doesn't feel like that. Anyhow, he said the Metacam is fine for today, and just bring him in tomorrow morning. Meanwhile, I think I should keep him quiet, but how do I when he just wants to play ball? LOL!

I pray that this isn't what your baby has Please keep us posted! P.S. - Have you already given him a full dose of Metacam today? You are only supposed to give Metacam once daily. Just thought I would let you know

Unfortunately, surgery is not an option for us financially right now, but Doc says he wouldn't even recommend it today if we could. He's got at least a year, maybe two or three before he will be advanced enough to need it. By then, we can be ready. Meanwhile, thanks for keeping us in your thoughts. I've been an emotional wreck today.

| :( Bless his little heart! I hope the anti inflamatory pills work well for him to ease the pain. You never know...maybe it will be a very slow developing thing! It is good that he still wants to play ball and all though! Poor little guy. KISSES TO HIM!
