| Hi & Thanks to everyone for your posts. I took my poor baby into the vet this morning, and THANKFULLY IT LOOKS LIKE SHE IS OK!!!Yeah! My vet is a small animal specialist, and she was not able to feel any broken bones on my puppy or any dislocations. She gave me some anti-inflammatory/ pain killer pills & said to watch her over the next few days. She should steadily improve with bearing more weight on the leg. If she does not improve in this time, she said we will xray to make sure the top of the hip is not fractured. My little Sophie is in good spirits today and playful. That is good! She is also putting the leg down So far as the kid part goes...THis boy has been at my house for the past 3 months every week. He knows not to pick up the dog, and this has not been an issue until now. He has dogs in his home, but not a Yorkie. I do know now, that the dog cannot be alone with the boy (or even my own kids) without what I would call "active" supervision. I thought as 5 year olds, they could be at least trusted out in my backyard while I did dishes through the window...If you have kids you now what I mean. If you don't, you may not understand and think I was not supervising...I was, it was just not enough in this case. I think as a parent of many children, you do as much as you can to give them your undivided attention, but there is always that 10% you are unable to give. (What do you do if you have to go pee or put in a load of laundry?) Of course, that is when something happens. It's not even a matter of IF, but WHEN. Kids are just immature & don't make good decisions much of the time..they have to be taught. Hopefully, Jack learned a lesson from this. So...I am feeling better about continuing to watch the boy, but I am going to watch him/them like a hawk now, and not let him even pet the dog without my direct supervision. I just read through all the posts and some of you have really gotten HOT on this subject! You have also twisted the issue in some cases. I would hope those are able to give constuctive criticism & not blame...Live & learn, and don't judge these children, or me. Again, thanks for all of the supportive comments, & I'm just glad my dog is looking to be OK. |

| Yayyyy I am so happy that your puppy looks to be ok. Your right. You could watch children all day, leave them for a minute and sure enough something happens. As far as I'm concerned you did nothing wrong. No matter what the thread there are those who pick up a word and run with it. I am sure the little boy has learned his lesson or at least I hope so. Glad your story has a happy ending. |

| I'm so glad your baby is doing better. It must have been hard knowing that the little boy threw the dog off the deck. I didn't read through all the posts, so I'll just ask have you sat down with him, and explained why he can't play with the dog anymore? I wish you the best of luck.

| I agree totally with BelwoBelwo I am really glad your baby is going to be fine! I have seen first hand, a child that is 99.9% of the time loving and gentle while playing with Maci, do something that made me wonder "what in the world was you thinking???"...the answer is: they DON'T THINK at that age! . ... She and Maci was sitting on the couch when the little girl needed to go she absent-mindedly pushed Maci off her lap to the floor and didnt think a thing about it until Maci landed with a thud on her back and yelped!..Maci was about 14 weeks then.. I could tell by the horror look on the little girl's face she had no idea that pushing her was not a good thing!..Thank goodness Maci was startled, but fine... Chalk it up to A LESSON LEARNED..

Please watch this baby. The vet I saw did exactly what yours did. He didn't feel a break or dislocation so he sent us home with pain meds. 2 days later, Missy still wasn't stepping down on her leg properly so I had her xrayed, and sure enough...it was broken. $3500 to repair it too. And that was from jumping off of my hand only 4" off of the ground. If your puppy is fine after a 5ft fall you are EXTREMELY lucky. I hope this is the case. Also, I'm shocked that people think a 5yr old wouldn't know better, my 3 yr old knows better. A little girl dropped a teensy little pebble on our Missy at the school the other day (Missy didn't even notice), and my daughter said, "Please don't do that gain, you might hurt her". All 3 of mine (ages 6, 4, and 3) know that they are under NO circumstances allowed to pick Missy up EVER. They may sit on the floor and hold her in their lap while being supervised ONLY. There has to be certain rules when you own a toy breed dog, and they MUST be followed. P.S. I don't feel the parents of this child should have to pay for any vet bills. He wasn't in their care at the time.

| Yay! Glad your puppy is going to be ok! I hate kids. Can't stand them. Damn right I wouldn't have this kid back in my house to babysit. Not happening.
