Hi & Thanks to everyone for your posts. I took my poor baby into the vet this morning, and THANKFULLY IT LOOKS LIKE SHE IS OK!!!Yeah! My vet is a small animal specialist, and she was not able to feel any broken bones on my puppy or any dislocations. She gave me some anti-inflammatory/ pain killer pills & said to watch her over the next few days. She should steadily improve with bearing more weight on the leg. If she does not improve in this time, she said we will xray to make sure the top of the hip is not fractured. My little Sophie is in good spirits today and playful. That is good! She is also putting the leg down
So far as the kid part goes...THis boy has been at my house for the past 3 months every week. He knows not to pick up the dog, and this has not been an issue until now. He has dogs in his home, but not a Yorkie. I do know now, that the dog cannot be alone with the boy (or even my own kids) without what I would call "active" supervision. I thought as 5 year olds, they could be at least trusted out in my backyard while I did dishes through the window...If you have kids you now what I mean. If you don't, you may not understand and think I was not supervising...I was, it was just not enough in this case. I think as a parent of many children, you do as much as you can to give them your undivided attention, but there is always that 10% you are unable to give. (What do you do if you have to go pee or put in a load of laundry?) Of course, that is when something happens. It's not even a matter of IF, but WHEN. Kids are just immature & don't make good decisions much of the time..they have to be taught. Hopefully, Jack learned a lesson from this.
So...I am feeling better about continuing to watch the boy, but I am going to watch him/them like a hawk now, and not let him even pet the dog without my direct supervision.
I just read through all the posts and some of you have really gotten HOT on this subject! You have also twisted the issue in some cases. I would hope those are able to give constuctive criticism & not blame...Live & learn, and don't judge these children, or me. Again, thanks for all of the supportive comments, & I'm just glad my dog is looking to be OK.
