So glad he's doing better. I can tell you this. One of the vets said possibly his anal opening is too small? Ready for this? My human baby, who is a adult now was born with that. Of course we didn't know. It wasn't until I finally told the doctor something is really wrong here. Tests were done and this is what I had to do, ugh, yuck and all that. I had to get a pinky plastic sheath (sp) And four times a day I had to stimulate the rectal area with my pinky, it would make him go. But what was happening was by me doing this 4 x a day it was stretching his little butt. Today he is 33 and his butt is A OK I had to do it for about a month.
On another note, was there ever a possibility that he may have swallowed something when he was young? It really sounds like a blockage of some sort. I know that a blockage and it doesn't have to be constipation, fluid will bypass it and yes it stinks because it is liquified stool. Could he have some little fissure or hemoroids? Sometimes it is something so simple and we tend to look at the big things first. The meds he is on are not good for long term. Plus if he does have any swelling, the meds will reduce that. But then we're just putting on a band aid and not looking at or fixing what's under it.
I hope he continues to do well.

Your poor little puppy! I have never seen a pup go through so much just trying to poop. I am glad that he is doing better.

Thanks Jemma, I will talk to the vet next time I am in there.

They did check him when he was young for blockages such as swelling and stuff with no luck. Hemorrhoids were one of my first ideas also but the vet said they would bleed with the amount of crying he is doing and he has never had blood.

I did want to add...he is down to only one dose of that med per day now. He takes 5 tiny drops in the mornings and that is it We are working on weaning him off of the med.

Thank you all for your continue caring and thoughts

I just saw this thread today. Not sure if this would help but Tanj went through a bout of gastritis. She would strain to poop and hardly anything would come out, she would be hunched over at times , and cry out when I tried to pick her up. She was given lactulose it made her poop runny but that was about all. After getting a shot of dexamethasone and a shot of an antibiotic she was better within 30 mins. She was then on metronidazole for about a week and continued to eat Eukenuba low residue for about a yr.

Sad

It keeps getting worse

I had to rush Thor to the emergency. He started vomiting and within an hour he was SOOO lethargic so I rushed him in. He was severely hypoglycemic and dehydrated. They gave him sub q fluids and did the blood tests. He also gave him an enema and took x-rays before and after his enemas to check for impaction. It was a big no on that.

He did all the tests he is comfortable with doing and is passing Thor's case and video to a GI specialist for advice. He is think that a barium test will be next. He, like all other vets, has NO idea what is wrong.

He scared us a bit tonight and we called the vet again. I picked him up and his head just flopped over I hurried to give him NutriCal and and after just about 30 minutes he was perking up.

I will keep you guys posted, please continue to keep him in your thoughts.

So sorry to hear that Thor's sick again...he was doing so much better.
Make sure when doing barium test that his vomitting has stopped. If he's still vomitting during barium test, & if any of the barium gets in his lungs, it'll be bad cuz there's no way of getting it out. Prayers for your little one...

WOW. This is the first time I read about your poor baby. He is so lucky to have a mom like you!! Just think, some people think we are crazy for what we do for your little furbabies. They are part of our family. I first thought he may have colitis. A good friend of ours has a dog with colitis and it sounds similar but there is always blood. It is controlled with medication as well but still comes on. I hope they find soon what the problem, it must be torture having him go through this.

Thor was doing A LOT better last night. He was almost hyper! He was playing with us in the living room, he peed A LOT, he was chewing his toys and humping his bed and acting normal. This morning I get him out of his playpen to potty and he couldn't even stand He would stand and then just kind of flop down. I gave him nutrical and fed him some puppy food through a syringe hoping to force him to eat. He did eat and can walk but he still isn't acting like he was last night.

I don't know what else to do

I am hoping he is just still worn out from all he went through yesterday so his food dish is right beside him (he did eat a little on his own after i started syringe feeding him) and we are just keeping the kitchen quiet for him so he can rest.

I think free feeding him is a good idea; they can use up their energy reserves so quickly and have an attack of hypoglycemia, which causes them to not have appetite. Even just a very active playtime or anxiety can do this. Having food available at all times helps prevent this. Still praying for you and Thor. By the way, it takes about 20 minutes after they eat or have nutri-cal for the blood sugar to return to normal, and for them to act normal.

I do think that a GI Specialist will have more insight.

OK back for an update. Thor was really lethargic this morning again (not sure if I said that in my earlier post). I gave him the nutrical and force fed him, then he began eating on his own but was still lethargic. I gave him more nutrical and after an hour or 2 he was feeling better and eating a lot more.

He had a BM and it was very very runny.

We cleaned that all up and played with him for a while and he was his normal playful self and has been since. I gave him a warm bath because he was really smelly from all the nutrical he got on him this morning and last night. Now he is back in the kitchen and seems to be doing fine.

We have him back to puppy food because we are afraid that the recipe that our vet recommended wasn't enough for him. The vet we went to yesterday wants him back on puppy food and said he wanted it done today. He wants him free-fed because he feels that he hasn't put on nearly the weight he should have by this age.

Anyway..for now Thor is feeling fine and we are just waiting to hear back from the vet about the GI specialist but he told me that may not be till Monday.

This is such a tiresome roller coaster I just want our puppy healthy!
