They said that the breeder would pay for all vet bills and give us another puppy. I'm sorry but, I do not feel comfortable getting ANOTHER puppy right now especially one from the same place! We aren't talking about exchanging a sweater! If or when we decide to get another puppy we wil not be going back to the same place. That is one lesson that we have learned through this experience.

I am very sorry to hear about little Buster! I've been keeping up with your post even though i never posted. Please stick around this forum, and when the time comes when your family feels ready to get another puppy, please consider a breeder from our YT community.

I'm sorry Buster didn't make it, I know this has been emotionally draining on you; not knowing what to do, or whose advice to follow. It sounds like you did everything you could, and I hope you use your grief to become an advocate for better breeding. Dogs should not be sold in pet stores. You need to find a good breeder, who follows the rules laid down by the YTCA and keeps the puppy a minimum of 12 weeks. A young puppy should not be held too much or taken places before 12 weeks, it uses its energy reserves very quickly and any excitement can drain these reserves. I just don't think some of the poor breeders understand the emotional investment pet owners put in their dogs, to many breeders, it's a business only, and they can't understand how people can become devastated when this happens. It sounds like this dog may have had liver shunt, and you should look for a breeder who tests her breeding dogs, and knows what she is doing. This is just heartbreaking, a dog is a huge financial and emotional commitment, I hope if you do decide you want to go down that path again, you look elsewhere for a dog, the price of a quality yorkie from a show breeder is often less than what pet stores charge.

YES!!! You are right, and I hope you stand firm, most people just take another dog, and the breeder stays in business.

As horrible as it is to think about, make sure you get an necropsy done to find out why little Buster died. It will probably be necessary to get a refund or take these &*^*%* to court.

This is not what I was hoping to read when I came here to check on Buster. I am so sorry for your loss.

I hope the pet store refunded your money on the spot.

Everyone has their own way of dealing with their loss. I find it helpful to start looking for another puppy. It always helped to take my mind off the grief and helped me to remember the lost one in happier situations.

I'm sure you will not buy from a pet store again. I hope others have learned as well.

I just wanted to say im gonna miss my little Buster Brown and hope he is in a better place. He was my little buddy and I will miss him. We tried the best for him and we will go ahead and think that it was meant to be and hopefully he can rest in a more peacful place. We think he was hurting everyday and only wished for it to go away and for him to get better. My family loved him and he will be missed! We love you Buster Brown!!

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. A painful but valuable lesson... prevent others from going through the same ordeal. Tell your story - write your local paper. Pet stores selling puppies is not right because there are way to many situations similar to your own, but people still do not know and the cycle continues. Educate, raise a stink!
