maui girl, very busy!! i have always been like this tho.. i worry alot and stress myself out. if i have a cold right away my brain is think pneumonia or something drastic ..i always think the worst i guess its a pretty bad quality but ever since i got prince i dont worry about myself.. all i worry about is HIM.. esp bc he had some sort of fit TWICE which scared the living crap out of me so now i am always watching and listening. my bf tells me that he senses my nervousness and it makes him nervous so i am trying to CALM down lol i hope by the time hes 6 months i wont worry AS MUCH ;) anywhooo something new is on my mind .. since the past few days i have been doing ANYTHING to get prince to eat, i think i spoiled him. he wont touch his wet food he just picks the human food out. so is it completely horrible that hes only eating veggies (peas and carrots), chopped meat, beef and boiled chicken (not all at once of course)? but thats basically his diet... my bf wants him to try liver? he heard it can boost the iron in his blood? any thoughts... |
Melissa, If only we lived closer! I have no idea where you live actually, but I"m guessing it's not in Asia. :) Where are you from? |
Never mind ---- I'm an idiot and didn't realize your location is below your avatar. lol. We're actually not that far away ---- I am originally from NH and all of my family is still in Boston/NH. |
tomorrow prince goes in for his EKG and chest xray around 930am.. he has been absolutely fine the past couple of days. if not better then ever (when i bought him they told me to feed him 3x a day and thats what i was doing but feeding him small meals every 4-6 hours even though its more time consuming is def much better for him) and i see a change in his face and his coloring:) i am a little nervous because i dont want to hear any bad news.. i hope and pray that everything comes out good tomorrow and we can finally say it was just a hypo incident and close this case forever! :animal-pa thanks! =) |
Why do you want to raise his iron level? Didn't the vet say everything is okay? I got your msg. and will answer tomorrow but I can tell you that that diet long-term would be very dangerous. Homecooking would be doable but it has to be balanced. |
Will keep your little guy in my thoughts and will say a special prayer for him tonight...I sincerely hope all goes well tomorrow...and always!!! |
Keep us posted! I hope everything comes back normal with the EKG and x-ray. You're in my prayers. |
honestly i dont know why i wanted to raise his iron, i think bc you brought up the idea that he could have anemia with the low hemoglobin in his bloodwork and i read that low iron causes anemia so i thought that i should give him more iron:confused: i shouldnt believe everything i read? the vet said not to worry about it, so i guess i shouldnt. well ive been feeding him this way for about a month since i got him, i mean i was mixing the meat with his wet food but now he just wants the homecooked food he wont touch his wet anymore.. he barely eats the dry.. so what do you think i should do? how could i balance it out? |
OOOh, I'm interested to hear what people say about the food. I think I've created a bit of a monster with Meg. She doesn't want to eat unless I add egg yolk or cottage cheese to her food. And even then, it seems like she doesn't want to eat if whatever she's craving hasn't been mixed in. I've been mixing food in with her wet food (Newman's Own) because she won't touch dry food. |
hello all, prince had his ultrasound and EKG today. The doctor said everything is normal, no congentital heart diseases or anything which is very good to hear:D he even had a heart specialist in the room with us who had come from another office to run the test on prince.. the cardiologist said that he does hear a slight arrythemia but it is nothing to worry about and he will most likely grow out of it. He doesnt think it has any correlation to the incident we had.. he says it was probably just a hypo case. This is very good news but now i feel like it was my fault this happened.:( i should of made him eat better.. but i def learned from my mistakes and i think prince is on the road to success now! i also brought up the fact that he isnt eating wet food and only wants home cooked food.. the vet told me that i should def get him back on the wet because it is very hard to make sure he gets all the vitamins and minerals he needs esp as a growing puppy. with the puppy food it already has everything he needs in it. so we are going to start teaching prince to like his wet and dry food again, wish us luck!! oh & the vet gave me omegaderm (essential fatty acids omega 6 and omega 3 plus vitamin A & E) they are these little packets that you mix with their food once a day, supposed to help with skin and coat (prince does have a little dry skin) what do you think about this product?:animal-pa |
Thank God everything is okay! Don't blame yourself for the hypo incident (although who am I to talk? I blame myself for Meg's, too). Now you're a more educated mommy, and hopefully Prince will eat enough that this doesn't happen again. You're a great mom, so don't doubt yourself. Did your vet give you any tips for getting Prince to eat the dry food? I'm headed to teh vet today, too, so I'll ask about it and post the vet's reply here. |
he said i could try putting chicken broth on the wet food to soften it, he said he must be retaught how to like these foods bc i spoiled him and if i continue the home cooked any longer he may never want dog food again:eek: |
So when you re-teach him.... what if he just won't eat the softened or wet food? Do you wait until he gets hungry enough? And how long is too long to wait (before he starts to get hypoglycemic)? |
i know just as much as you =( im starting this for the 1st time in about half hour... im going to mix some wet with the homecooked and slowly put more wet and less homecooked until its all wet food.. if he wont eat ill have to force feed. it sucks but u gotta do it. |
