Vets do get busy and forget to call. The main thing is that he is eating something at least somewhat approprate for his issues. If he eats his old food, that is what I'd give for now. |
thanks thats wat im going to do, after he eats dinner do u think i should just continue to let him sleep? also, did u ever hear of rebound? a drink for dehyrdation and stuff.. the vet gave it to me to give him |

If he isn't getting up to use the bathroom, etc., he needs to see the vet. If his gums are anything but the normal pink, it is an emergency. I have heard of Rebound but don't know anything about it and I've never used it. When dehydration is a concern, I use Pedialyte. |
i fed prince dinner at 6pm and hell eat again at 10, the vet wants him to eat small meals every 4 hours. he had some wet food and tiny pieces of chicken breast and drank the rebound. he played with a toy for a little, pooped then went back 2 sleep. hes sleeps like hour intervals, will wake up use the bathroom play with a toy for a little and go back 2 bed.. so i guess that means hes doing better? |
& i removed alot of the links from his xpen so hes not completely stuck in his crate, he has a little backyard but its not big enough for him to run around like crazy |
I'm glad that Prince is home with you! I really hope that it's not a liver shunt problem. I hope you hear back from the vet about the BAT soon!! |
i know me too, the results SHOULD be in tomorrow |
Hi Melissa, I just saw your post. I'm so sorry that Princeton had to be hospitalized! After Meg came home from the hospital, she didn't want to eat any hard kibble food, even when I wet it down with water. She loves *very* tiny diced chicken (boiled) and crumbled egg yolk (I hardboiled the eggs). She ate some plain yogurt at first, but doesn't seem to want it anymore. Sometimes I give her a few tiny pieces of hard cheddar cheese and it really seems to get her hungry. She won't eat more than two or three pieces, but then she wants to eat her food. I also bought (but haven't tried): baby food, applesauce, PediaLite, Cesar's wet food, etc. Did your vet send you home with any Clini-Care? It's a high calorie/nutrient (and sugar) liquid that can help wet the appetite and get food in Princeton. You can mix it in with other food or serve on its own. All Meg at on her first day or so home was diced chicken and Clini-Care. Okay, for food --- the only dog foods Meg really seem to love are: 1) The Honest Kitchen (dehydrated food that you add water to, and can add chicken, etc, or feed plain). You can get it as specialty health food stores or pet stores. She LOVES the "Embark" formula. 2) Newman's Own Turkey and Chicken wet dog food, which I found at the grocery store. It's much, much softer than the IAM's the vet sent her home with, and looks much more palatable. She barely touched teh IAMS after she'd tried the Newman's Own. I'm so sorry you're going through this. Keep your chin up, and just get Princeton to eat ... anything! I don't know much about liver shunts, but I think it's important that he gets good nutrition in his system. I'm praying for you both! Keep me posted on how he's doing. |
thankss i will def try all those things because i need prince to eat..i feed him at 6am some wet and chopped meat but he only had a little then i syringed him water & he went right back 2 sleep.. i dont know if im crazy but i just think hes sleeping TOO much.. this isnt like princeton. hes so playful and active, i hope hes not depressed or anything. i really need him 2 bounce back:( the results are supposed 2 come in today |
You might need to ask your vet about syringe feeding Princeton if he won't eat on his own. Also ask for a can of Clini-Care. He can drink it like water and still get some nutrients in his body. I am praying everything works out. Please keep me posted! |
any news? |
Still keeping Princeton in my thoughts and prayer's. Hope the results come in soon. Priceton be a good little boy and eat for Mommy. You need your strength. I feel for you. It must be so hard worrying about the results and with him not eating on top of it you must be drained. Hope today is a much better one for the two of you. |
ok the results are in.. prince has NO SHUNT!! thank the lordddd everything came out negative .. today we were to his regular vet and the er vet faxed over the results..his vet went over everything and said n0o shunt so thats good. he did however hear a slight arithemia in prince's heart. he said it culd be nothing and prince may grow out of it but just to be on the safe side he made us an appt for the cardiologist. prince is going to get an echocardiogram. so thats the next thing to worry about although the vet told me NOT to worry, just make sure princes eats, little exercise and NO STRESS for princey. he also did neurological test and he said everything is good. p.s. today prince is 3months =) happy birthday to my baby boy<33 p.s.s. does anyone know how to read test results? maybe i could post some numbers and stuff, see what u guys think |
