i was wondering if i could feed him his old food, i just have a feeling he would eat it up. is it ok? should i call and ask the dr? |
hi melissa, im praying that your baby is 100% better.. im so glad he is home with mommy and daddy... |
I agree something is better than nothing. The a/d is meant for recovering pups. I'd definitely run it by your vet first. |

I know nothing about shunts but do you think it would be ok to add alittle plain yogart to the a/d food for flavor? EllieMay? anyone? |

If it were my dog and the vet was testing for liver shunt, I probably wouldn't feed A/D at all because it is one of the worst foods for the liver. I'd probably do homecooked or feed the old food if he will eat it and it is more appropriate for liver issues. If it is hypo, he needs to eat something. I wouldn't personally be too concerned if he wouldn't eat the A/D as long as he will eat something balanced. |

home with that food. He would not touch it. I cooked him plain white rice and boiled chicken but chicken is protein and that's a no-no. Right? He did not have a shunt tho. I feel for you trying to get food in him. What about babyfood? Veggies, oatmeal etc for now. |

I feel for you and what it's like for your dog not to when it's most important. Someone already suggested baby food. (look for food w/o onion powder)I used baby food and also when my dog was battling Kidney failure, i did plain cooked oatmeal, made it really soupy with water and i also used cream of wheat saem thing, soupy. Basically she drank it and not so much ate it...she liked it.....GOOD LUCK |
i heard that the a/d is high protein, isnt that bad for dogs with liver shunt? i just gave him some of his old food with a little chopped meat, he licked it,played with it, ate a little.. im going to try the baby food also. at this point i just need food in him, hes soo sleepy. i keep waking him up and trying to force feed.. should i try to play with him or just let him sleep? |
this vet is really starting to tick me offff, i called las night to ask about the food and the lady said an emergency just came in, hell call you back..he never did. i called again today at 3 and she said hes busy hell call you back..he never did.. so i just took it upon myself to feed prince im not going to watch him starve and the a/d looks gross i dont blame the poor baby. but i also wanted to ask if he got any test results back UGH i hate waiting and wondering |
