| Help....Throwing up!!!!!!! Bella started throwing up last night at 3 am and kept throwing up every 5 mins for about 45 mins. She then calmed down a bit but then threw up a few more times. She was extremely thirsty but won't eat anything. I took her to the vet in the morning and she gave her a shot of something to help her intestine work right so she would keep throwing up and then she gave me some syringes with some kind of pepto bismol for dogs. Her temperature was low so she said it probably wasn't an infection. I brought Bella home and she kept throwing up all afternoon about every 30 mins just water liquid stuff. She won't even keep down the stuff that is supposed to calm her stomach. I took her back to the vet this evening because I am so worried about her. The vet took Xrays which didn't show anything, then gave her a shot of antibiotics. She also got 2 infusions to help her and some more pepto bismol stuff. The vet said she is not sure what it is and I need to bring her back in the morning. She still has not eaten anything and is so thirsty but can't keep anything down. I made her take some nutri stat but she is so lethargic and has no energy. She is a little bit shaky too. Has anyone had this happen or does anyone have any advise on how to get her to stop throwing up and eat something? |

| oh boy. Can you entice her with something like yogurt or apple sauce? The sugar content will bring her blood sugar up, even if she can't hold it down. What about rubbing some honey on her gums? She didn't get into anything?? How old is she? how much does she weigh? what is she eating (kibble brand) |

| She may need to go on an IV at the vet tonight. Dehydration can lead to electrolyte imbalance an then cardia arrest and it sounds like their is nothing you can do at home to stop this from happening. What did she eat yesterday? Shakiness would probably either be pain or maybe low blood sugar. Even if you get her to eat, she most likely won't keep it down if she can't keep down liquids. If she can do liquids, how about pedialyte?

| Bella likes to eat anything and everything so it's hard to say what she got into. I think she must have gotten into something but what I don't know. I rubbed some nutristat in her mouth and that has stayed down so far and I have done that a few times today. I didn't have any pedialyte so I gave her a little gatorade mixed with water but that came up about 20 mins later. The vet gave her 2 infusions with glucose and stuff in it. She is just over 2 years old and weighs about 7 lbs. She will lay with me for awhile and then she will go lay on the cold tile floors. She is just so weak from not eating/drinking anything. |

If Ellie was that weak, I think I'd opt for an IV because what the vet gave isn't going to last all night.

| I am in Germany and it is 11pm right now, so I will see if the vet will answer. When I was there she said that she should be ok until the morning? She hasn't thrown up for a couple hours and seems to be ok but I don't want to take any chances. |

Lady had an episode of diarrhea a couple of months ago. I stopped the diarrhea with Immodium and she hadn't had it in almost 24 hours, but she was still weak and lethargic. I took her to the ER vet and they said her electrolytes were so off, she could go into cardiac arrest at any moment. She had to spend two days on an IV to recover from "simple" diarrhea. | |

| Update on Bella I took Bella in last night at midnight to the same vet. They wouldn't give her an IV as I requested and gave her 2 more infusions under the skin. She took another Xray which didn't show anything again. She then sent us home and told me to bring her back at 9am. About 3:30 am Bella started throwing up again and shaking and tremoring really bad and I could not get ahold of any other vets. I brought her in at 6:30am to a different vet and they were all booked up and wouldn't even look at her. So, I went to another vet which finally helped me. He got her hooked up to an IV and took an Xray which showed that she had something in her stomach. He did an emergency surgery to remove it. It was half in her stomach and half in her intestine. It was some white cloth looking thing. He said she was shaking obviously because her blood sugar was low but also because her body was in shock because of the toxins. I have her home resting now and I have a lot of medicine to give her starting tomorrow. I hope that she heals well and nothing else goes wrong. I am so frustrated with the service I have gotten from these different vets except the last one who finally helped her. Just wanted to give everyone an update and to let you know she is doing ok/ on the mend. Thanks for all of your comments! |

I would be upset too though. Was there any reason why the first vet wouldn't do an IV?

| I'm not really sure why she wouldn't do an IV. She said that it would be hard for her to get it in alone because she didn't think the vein would be very good. I dont know, but I was not happy because she could see how bad Bella was shaking and stuff. I'm sure the infusions helped but to just send us home to come back the next day is irritating. I know that vets are busy but for that one to not even look at her because she was booked really made me mad because of how bad of shape she was in. That one wasn't an emergency place but still. I'm just glad that she got help finally because I was so worried. |

| I am very glad the vet found what was causing Bella to be so sick. My Suzi has been ill too, and is finally starting to feel better. When I took her in the vet liftet her fur up and told me that she was not dehydrated. Suzi did not need iv's either. Bella had an obstruction , that was causing her to be very ill. My Suzi had more like an infection that was the same symtoms as your Bella. I am glad she is going to feel better now.
