YorkieTalk Newbie! | hEAD INJURY WITH YORKIE i have a 4 1/2 month old yorkie that fell down some stairs (carpeted) and has some kind of head injury. The first night he was unresponsive and unable to stand. He is improving but is still unable to stand. He does move his legs but he can not get it together to walk. This happened on New Years eve. Do you think he can recover? I am so sick right now because I am so worried about Charlie. He is my first pet that I have loved so much. He is a sweetheart and I want to do everything possible to help....THE VET SAYS PUPPIES CAN RECOVER...ANY ADVICE? |

YorkieTalk Newbie! | He is going for a consultation in two weeks at the animal rehab. His vet says that he can recover because he is a pup, this started because his glucose dropped and he passed out. The glucose his back to normal but they think when his glucose dropped he passed out and fell down the stairs. The animal rehab wants him to rest for another week before he comes in. |

| I'm sorry to hear this news of your little pup. Has he been checked my your vet since the fall? I think he needs to be seen by a regular vet and have some tests run before he goes to rehab-that's a long way away. I will be thinking of you both, and hoping for some updates of his progress!

| If they are saying nothing is broken, I guess there is nothing you can do until rehab but I think if Ellie couldn't walk and the vet wanted to wait and see, I'd ask for a referral to a neurologist or or othe psecialist just to see if they agreed with the first vet. Is your pup on pain meds?

| OMG! This is horrible, i couldn't imagine seeing my pup in this state for 6 days and have to wait to go to REHAB....What about paralysis, i know you said he can move some, when you touch him, does he show pain, or sense the touching/feeling of something? i would think an x-ray could tell if anything was severed, or broken.....There is no way I'd sit and wait, regardless of what any vet said. I hope and your pup the best and please keep us updated on him.

| It sounds like your vet thinks your puppy has a concussion. The brain gets bruised and swells. As it heals, hopefully his neurological symptoms will go away. If it were me, I'd take him to a neurologist for a second opinion, though. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | They can recover, they really can! Read this incredible thread: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...ead-horse.html I would want more guidance at this point - is there someone with whom you can consult w/ sooner? If the brain is injured, time is important. Please keep us posted - I am keeping your baby in my thoughts.

| How is he able to eat? Is he aware just not able to stand? I think at the very least I'd want some xrays done. You will be in my thoughts. |
