![]() Hi everyone, My yorkie puppy (8 months) started throwing up yesterday morning and has continued until this afternoon (around 1pm). He has thrown up a total of 6 times. First, let me say he is not experiencing any diarrhea or lethary at all. If he was having diarrhea as well I would take him to the vet immeadiately. He isnt behaving any differently or acting lethargic. He throws up and then he is fine, back to eating, drinking and playing. I believe that he has eaten something that he is trying to get out of his stomach? This morning his throwup had a few pine needles and some string in it. At first the vomit was brown with bits of things in it, now it is mostly yellow and frothy, like stomach bile. (No matter how much I clean the little baby finds EVERYTHING on the floor). I have taken him to the vet 3 times in the last 2 months because he threw up or had diarrhea...and the vet runs tests and says that he is absolutely fine. Have any of you ever experienced this? Where maybe your yorkie swallowed something and was trying to vomit to get rid of it? And as I said before, he is not dehydrated or having diarrhea... Thanks for your help!

| ![]() They don't just throw up unless something is wrong. They do eat everything when they are puppies and that is what is concerning. If he has eaten something he shouldn't have, it could be an intestinal blockage, or he could have some underlying medical issue. I would take him to the vet soon if it continues. Please keep us posted and let us know how he is. ![]()

I agree. Pine needles and string do not digest and could cause an obstruction. He needs to be seen by your vet. | |

![]() Sammy has eaten grass and mulch. I took him to the vet and ruled out blockage or puncture through x-rays. That was two years ago. You should take him to the vet. they will probably do x-rays to rule this out.

![]() Hi everyone, Thanks so much for the replies yesterday, its nice to have fellow yorkie owners and lovers to ask for advice! Moose has not thrown up at all since yesterday at 1pm. He hasn't had any diarrhea (he never had any) and he is eating and drinking normally. He is also peeing and pooping just like normal. In his last bout of throwup yesterday afternoon, there was a small tag in it that appeared to have been swallowed whole, he didnt chew it. It was one of those inspection sticky tags that probably came off of a Christmas gift. Since then, Moose has been his normal self. He rested well last night and is running, playing, eating, drinking, peeing and pooping just like normal. I guess the tag was what he was trying to expel from his stomach. I read all of your comments about things that are undigestable and that it could cause an obstruction and spoke with Moose's vet; she says that because he is peeing and pooping normally with no vomit or diarrhea that the tag was probably the culprit and to continue to watch him closely for any signs of discomfort. Moose is well and back to his normal puppy self; he will be watched like a hawk for the next few days to make sure that the tag was indeed causing the problem. I can assure you that he will be rushed to the vet at any sign of trouble! But it appears to be an "oh-my-goodness-i-cant-believe-he-ate-that" incident. Thanks so much for your replies and help!!

![]() Hi, I just read your post about your yorkie throwing up yellow foam...as I said in a couple of my previous posts, Moose has done this several times too. I have taken him to the vet every single time except for this last time (turns out he had eaten a tag and was fine after he expelled it)...my vet says that the yellow foamy throwup could be a result of changing food, traveling in car, stress or anxiety, or an empty stomach (if its been a while since she has eaten). So, it could be a number of things...is she also having diarrhea? Is she still eating and drinking? If she isn't acting herself and not eating or drinking along with the throwup, its probably best to at least call the vet. With Moose, since he is only 3lbs, I usually always take him just in case, which leads to very expensive vet bills but peace of mind for me. If she's acting lethargic, and not eating/drinking, or has diarrhea too (especially if she has diarrhea), I would call the vet and ask for advice and probably take her in. I've done this so many times with Moose and he has been fine, but I'd never forgive myself if I hadn't taken him and it had been life threatening. Hope this helps a little!

![]() Thats great that she is playing again! Moose did the same thing with his new food, I switched it gradually but he still got a little sick from the change. Especially if the throwup was in the am, her little stomach was probably empty, it leads to yellow foamy throwup which is bile. It could have been the travel or the food, but since her stool is normal that is a good sign. I would just watch her very close... if she stops eating/drinking normally, or if she has any diarrhea, that would be a reason to call the vet. I'm sure you'll keep a close eye on her for any sign of trouble, please post an update later and let us know how she is, hope she's feeling better!

![]() Roscoe is a frequent cookie tosser! The yellow stuff, old hat for us. He gets what we call alien belly. Sounds like an alien is trying to get out. We have well water in our house as opposed to city sewage. We have started giving the dogs bottled water. We found that the well water could contain contaminents that wont clean thru the normal filtering process and when there is snow and you treat the driveways, or when its spring or fall and you fertilize, small amounts, enough to hurt the dog were in our water source. Beyond that, once it happens, we keep saltines in the house. If we can get him to take some of the cracker and keep it down, just a tiny corner, then we try again in an hour and within a couple of hours we can get the whole cracker down. Once his tummy takes that he will start eating again and the yellow stuff goes away.

![]() I've never heard of giving them saltine crackers, I guess their like humans! How much does your Yorkie weigh? I wonder if that would work for Moose? He's only 3 lbs

![]() 7 pounds. Oh, and he thinks he is human. The object is to get them SOMETHING that stays. As long as the tummy is empty that yellow stuff stays around, not to mention the lovely breath that goes with it. ![]() When we didnt know it was our water we had lots of tummy issues. So bad that when we went to bed (they both sleep with us) He would yack and we would have to change sheets. He would shake and carry on. Finally, problem solved but you dont go thru something like that and not get a few tricks up the sleeve. Another one, the vet would give us meds to calm his tummy. We used to give meds, then try to get him to eat (cracker or anything) he wouldn't even try. But if we did the cracker first, then he would get something in his tummy and the meds followed.
