| doctors may prescribe antibiotic prophylaxis to prevent infection. when the eye is very dry, even blinking can result in a small corneal abrasion, which increases risk of infection. an even more compelling reason to have antibiotics is that tearing helps rid the eye of irritants and pathogens. Thus severe dry eye reduces the ability of the eye to fight infection.

| Thank you so much. That is reassuring. As long as I'm using the antibiotic cream, it shouldn't get infected, right???? |

She said that I cannot over-medicate the eye so to use the cream every few hours if I'm at home. Otherwise, 3 times a day at least. Should his eye be okay if I use the cream as prescribed?

| Saturday morning my little girl was squinting her right eye, and it had matter in it. I took her to the ER vet, and she told me that Tenci had a small tear in her cornia. They gave me some ointment to put in it three times a day to prevent infection. The vet said Tenci's eye should be fine and heal on its own, but to use the ointment to prevent infection.

My vet stained Hobbs' eye and didn't say anything about a tear. Hopefully Hobbs' eye will heal properly and be well in no time.

It'll just take time. Is he tolerating the creme? Just be sure he's not trying to wipe it away with his paws. (My concern is that he doesn't hurt himself more rubbing or scratching, much like sometime we rub our eyes like crazy when we have an itch, even though we know it won't help).

I'm making sure he isn't scratching at it. The vet gave me a cone to put on him if I see he's scratching it. I put it on his yesterday when I left the house because he was wanting to scratch it a little, but he hasn't scratched at it today at all. So I haven't put the cone on him today. He's tolerating the cream very well surprisingly!! Hopefully it will just continue to improve. Of course I don't know for sure, but my husband thought he couldn't see out of it yesterday. But today he thought his sight might be better!

| Update: Hobbs' eye looks SOOOO much better! He's keeping it opened. It seems like he can see out of it. The only thing that's bothering me at this point is that his eye is REALLY dialated. And it doesn't seem like the dialation ever goes down. I called the vet today and she said the cream I put in his eye has some drug in it that makes his eye dialated. But I looked the drug up on the internet and nowhere does it say that it's in the cream. So who knows. But at least he's getting better!!!!!! |

| So sorry about little Hobbs eye. I have to confess, Buttons needs a teeth cleaning & I haven't done it because I am scared of the anesthesia. He only weighs 3 lbs and I'm just not sure I trust the vet enough to let her put him under. Keep us updated on Hobbs. I'm sure he will be fine. |
