Hobbs' eye got too dry while under anesthesia I took Hobbs & Hootie to the vet today to get their teeth cleaned. When I picked them up, I noticed Hobbs was squinting one of his eyes. They did an eye stain and determined that the cornea of one of his eyes got too dry while under anesthesia. Anesthesia is known to dry out the eyes so they put gel in their eyes before surgery, but I guess they didn't put enough in one of Hobbs' eyes. I have to put this cream in his eye every few hours for the next 7 days. I hope his eye will be alright. Has anyone ever experienced this or know anything about it? Will is eye be ok??? :(:(:( |
Aww Rebecca, I am so sorry to hear about Hobb's poor little eye! :( I don't have any advice as I have never experienced this with Stedman or Tatum, but I just wanted to post and tell you that I hope he will be ok! Keep us updated on him and give him a big hug for me  |

Awww, I know....it's just terrible when ANYTHING is wrong with them :( I feel so sorry for him too, that poor little angel! What did your vet say about it? Did he seem concerned at all? Or did he think that it would heal pretty quickly? |

I don't have experience with this, but my guess would be that it's not all that uncommon (though it shouldn't happen :() in dogs and humans. Did the vet seem to think it'd heal up without any problems then? I guess I'd assume that, given the amount of time he was probably under. Poor Hobbs!! Give him some hugs from us. We'll be thinkin' of him :). |

Awww, poor baby. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery. Gosh, I never heard of that before, but I can see how it could happen. |
Sorry to hear about Hobbs. Maybe you could call and ask the vet just to make sure that he will make a full recovery. Iwould think it happens occassionally to dogs and humans and he should be ok. But I would want reassurance from the vet again. |

keep us posted on his recovery |
I hope his eye gets better soon!!!!!!! |
I'm really confused now. My husband just got home and I told him what happened. I showed him the cream I'm supposed to put in Hobbs' eye. He said it is antibiotic cream. Why in the world would I be putting antibiotic cream in his eye if the problem is that it dried out???????? |
Wow that is weird! I would think an ointment to ease the pain and a liquid to rehydrate the eye would be needed. I would call the vet as soon as possible. |
They use an antibiotic cream in human eyes when they get irritated, so maybe that is why they are having you use it. The eye should be ok if the furbaby doesn't get an infection. |
