| I have just lost my Pixie to Chronic Kidney Disease. She was just over a year old. She had not been sick very much in her life. She did drink alot of water, but that is the only thing she did out of the normal. She started getting sick on a Sunday, and we lost her on the next Sunday. You need to have her BUN and CRE levels tested. This will tell you if she is in kidney failure. If it is kidney disease you need to act asap. This is a terrible disease and it takes them quick if not treated.

| If you have not already, I would suggest you do a consult with a board certified internal med vet. As for her not eating, ask your vet if perhaps you could try Mirtazapine. I had a yorkie with renal disease and that medicine was amazing. He was so sick and would not eat. The day after starting on that med he started eating! It helps with the nausea and also is an appetite stimulant. You really should start your own thread ... I am going to PM and see if perhaps your post can be moved to it's own place. Welcome to YT. There are a lot of people here with experience in renal issues in yorkies.

| When Maggie came home from the hospital Mirtazapine was one of the drugs she is on. Sometimes it works but most of the time it doesn't. I was given false hope that she was going to be fine. She is just getting worse. I am talking to my vet later today to ask about getting more of the drug because she is out as of yesterday. Are the yorkies that have this disease in pain? Maggie doesn't move much any more...I hold her and talk to her and she just watches me. She is not who she used to be. All I do is cry and wonder what I could have done to prevent this. I have another yorkie (maggie's sister) Isabelle and she is just fine. I am scared that she may get this disease as well... Thanks for taking the time to write to me. |

| My yorkie has BUN level of 140 Hi! Haven't posted I a while. My beautiful sweet Stella has Bun level of 140 and creatnin 2.9 she also has pancreatitis. This seemed to come on suddenly. She has been on Iv fluids for 48hrs there hoping for her numbers to drop considerably more. She seems alert and happy like she's improving but her blood levels are still not where they need to be. Anyone else who's had a similar story to share please do. I'm hoping for it to be a kidney infection and not kidney disease. Thanks,Leigh Mom to Stella and Roxie |

| Our 3-year old Yorkie is in trouble Our 3-year-old Yorkie Jax is coming home today, but we're not sure he's going to make it. He's got a 59 BUN (was as high as 88). The vet says if they hadn't had him on IV fluids the last two weeks, he'd have died. So we're bringing him home to see if we can keep up the subQ fluids and help the little guy have a somewhat normal life. Has anyone ever heard of a Yorkie with kidney problems that got through it and got his old life back again? We fear the worst, but we need to know what we're dealing with. He's only had 3 years of life and he means so much to my wife and me. That's not enough life. He deserves more. -Jaxsdad |

| My almost 15 yr old blind yorkie girl just had a dental cleaning of which before hand they had to do a CBC, SCA. Her red blood cell, white blood cell and platelet counts were within normal range. Her Serum Chemistry Analysis showed her glucose, creatinine, total protein, albumin, globulin, calcium, phosporous, liver values, total bilirubin, cholesterol, amylase and lipase were all within the normal range. One of her kidney values ( blood urea nitrogen ) was mildly increased. She's going to get a urinalysis to determine the nature of her kidney disease. Her Electrolytes were all within the normal range. She had a dental cleaning , received IV fluids and antibiotics through an IV catheter during the procedure. She recovered uneventfully. She is on Clavamox for the next 10 days and she's getting rehecked again next tues when they will recheck her kidney function values at that time. She's doing really well, eating good, drinking and peeing a lot. Lacey is 3.6 lbs. Now her younger sister, age 13, also shows signs of kidney disease and her vet put her on the Hils L/d food today. She's a fussy eater and not much luck with any food other than pure white meat chicken breast meat. Of which the proteins suppose to be lowered, defeating the purpose. She's only 3 lbs, and when she refuses to eat, she worrys me terribly. Usually eats in the morning and evening, or morning , late afternoon or evening. I can see a check up coming for her again soon. She's not on any meds, just got an instant cataract about 2 months ago and is still battling with accepting blindness. She only has one eye due to glaucoma 4 yrs ago when one eye had to be removed. I'm hoping the both of them will get the meds they need soon. This post is very interesting, at least I know I'm not alone.

| To find a specialist in your area, you can search on this website: American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine > Home You want to find SAIM (small animal internal medicine) Good luck!

| Rocky and high BUN Hi My Rocky is 14yrs old now, he has lived with the kidney problems for about 4-5yrs now. He tries all the low protein dry foods and hated Royal Canine MP the least. He started around 11# and is 7.5# as of yesterday. We brush his teeth every night along with Mojo his 5yr old brother. He was getting anual dental cleanings up till this year... He has only lost 2 teeth this far which is great for his age. So over the years we have a full panel taken for him each 6mths. The panel includes the T4 for thyroid. We learned his thyroid failed about 6yrs ago and his values went to Zero!!! That is regular now with daily meds! The BUN has slowly creeped up in the last 2 years 34->54->61->84 this past Saturday. Oddly my vet just now mentions the Epakitin and I then read and find Azodyl. I think just in the nick of time as we are giving sub-q every 2 days now and Rocky doesn't want to eat anything. We have been through 3 dozen kinds of food and find a warm bun and rotessire chicken is all that he will nibble. The vet prescribed the anti anxiety meds and they helped him get hungry and lift his head after 2 days of being a zombie dog. He is such a sweet boy, and I really think the binding by the Epakitin and the Azodyl will help us going forward as long as the sun-q can hold things in check while he recovers. It's a tough cycle to break and catch up. We want to do all we can for him. His brother Milo passed 5years ago for the same kidney disease! God Bless the little fur babies, nothing like a Yorkie❤️ |

| High kidney levels? Hi, I have a 10yr old Yorkie and I am hoping someone can give me a little advice. Her levels are a little high, 53. My concern is that she has dropped from a little over 5 lbs to 4 lbs in October and now 3.8lbs. She doesn't eat a lot and my vet isn't worried. If she was your dog, would a find a new vet? Or isn't that number too alarming? I am going to be heartbroken if I miss the signs. Thanks, Jan |

| I suggest starting a new thread of your own. This thread is over 7 years old, these members are no longer active on this board.

As Matese suggested, you really should start your own thread. You can do that by starting out with Forums, then go to Sick and Injured and from there you can see how to do it.
