Rocky and high BUN Hi
My Rocky is 14yrs old now, he has lived with the kidney problems for about 4-5yrs now. He tries all the low protein dry foods and hated Royal Canine MP the least. He started around 11# and is 7.5# as of yesterday.
We brush his teeth every night along with Mojo his 5yr old brother. He was getting anual dental cleanings up till this year... He has only lost 2 teeth this far which is great for his age.
So over the years we have a full panel taken for him each 6mths. The panel includes the T4 for thyroid.
We learned his thyroid failed about 6yrs ago and his values went to Zero!!!
That is regular now with daily meds!
The BUN has slowly creeped up in the last 2 years 34->54->61->84 this past Saturday. Oddly my vet just now mentions the Epakitin and I then read and find Azodyl. I think just in the nick of time as we are giving sub-q every 2 days now and Rocky doesn't want to eat anything. We have been through 3 dozen kinds of food and find a warm bun and rotessire chicken is all that he will nibble.
The vet prescribed the anti anxiety meds and they helped him get hungry and lift his head after 2 days of being a zombie dog.
He is such a sweet boy, and I really think the binding by the Epakitin and the Azodyl will help us going forward as long as the sun-q can hold things in check while he recovers. It's a tough cycle to break and catch up.
We want to do all we can for him.
His brother Milo passed 5years ago for the same kidney disease!
God Bless the little fur babies, nothing like a Yorkie❤️ |
