| Mason Man is struggling! Please help... My wife and I left our little Mason home by himself from 9pm to 7am on Saturday night. He has been left at home before (frequently during the day, but not often at night) and has always been ok. This time was different. We came home Sunday AM and he was trembling, normally he is very excited to see us. He hid and trembled all day and is getting a little bit better but is still very reserved and still has his trembling fits. We are very concerned and can't figure out if he is in pain or if this is emotional stress. He seems to be walking fine, not limping but is barely eating. He is peeing and pooping which is good. Could this be his anal glands? Any other ideas? Very, very concerned... http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/d...x/P9240486.jpg |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hmmm, how old is he? So, his poop is totally normal? But, he's not really hungry? Is his tummy distended/swollen? Check his gums - are they nice and pink? He is drinking water? Energy level/alertness okay otherwise? Was there a storm or anything the night he was alone? If it was his anal glands, he'd likely be rubbing his bottom on the floor - and his poos would probably be funny. I guess at this point, I'd try stimulating his appetite with something he LOVES like peanut butter, bits of cheese, cereal, bread, crackers, yogurt, cottage cheese - anything that he likes. Hold him, comfort him while he's getting these treats. Palpate him ALL over his body to check for sore spots/tenderness. He may have been just scared by something - but just triple check that there is not injury. If you can't stimulate his appetite though, I'd probably take him in within a day or so (unless, of course, you suspect injury). Welcome to YT, btw - sorry it is under these circumstances, but glad you found us.

| How old is he and how much does he weigh? I concur with Ann and would take him to the vet sooner rather than later. Since he has loss of appetite and shaking, I think I'd go today.

| I think I also would seek the advice of the veterinarian ... but if all is okay... When we leave, yes the epitome of spoiled here! , we leave a couple of lights on and we also leave the T.V. going so that there is background noise, so she will think we are somewhere in the house! Seems to work so far anyways!

Most likely the "pain" little Mason is suffering is a change in his schedule. Dogs are creatures of habit and have a very accurate internal "clock" that tells them when certain things are supposed to happen. If you are normally home during the evening and nighttime hours and you were suddenly away - he was suffering from anxiety because his routine was changed. I am not saying that there aren't other physical problems as well -- when in doubt a visit to your doggie's health care professional is always in order.

He is still acting weird and we are going to take him to the vet on Thursday. He scooted twice today and I'm really hoping that this trauma was due to anxiety plus anal glands. This has been our first concern since the week that we picked him up from topknotchyorkies. Unfortunately 10 of their dogs passed away due to Giardia. Mason was the only one who survived after being hospitalized, a miracle, and love from my wife and I. His is definitely a strong dog and we hate to see him in pain.

Although I had a situation like you're describing with my Charmer.....so, off we went to the vet's....he ran a CBC on him and found that he'd been bitten by a spider. Gave him a shot to counter react the poison in his system and put him on antibiotics.....

He easily could have been stressed from being alone for that amount of time - especially if not used to it. I hope he checks out ok and is back to normal...it's no fun not knowing what's wrong with them -
