| ![]() Its not your fault at all. I am sorry to hear about this. My Yorkie is 3 pounds and he got Ivermectin for ear mites. He received .08 ml orally. The clinic/dermatologist should be paying for her vet bills if it was a medication error. I feel so bad for everyone involved. |

| ![]() That is awful. I cannot believe she had a reaction on Tuesday morning and they went ahead and gave her it again. That is so wrong. Are you confusing Interceptor with Heartgard? The active ingredient in Heartgard is ivermectin. In Interceptor it is milbemycin oxime. I'm asking because we use Interceptor. I thought it was the safer choice. I hope your friend's dog is able to fight through this. I will keep her in my prayers.

| ![]() not looking good motor activity is minimal and not sure if voluntary or involuntary ![]() she cannot swallow -- this drug was used for demodex mange not heart worm so it was a stronger dose than heart worm. The drug affects the mites neurologically and kills them. If it crosses the blood brain barrier of the animal it can leave a dog with seizures, coma and possible death. She is in a coma state now ![]() The dermatologist said interceptor can cause same reaction as heart guard but the doseage is much lower and only given once a month for this drug -- she was getting this drug daily with ketaconozole (antifungal drug) which could have been a mixture of the drugs as well -- who knows ![]() |

| ![]() Ivermectin is generally considered safe with the exception of herding dogs, such as the Collie, Autralian Shepherd, etc. The dosages for mange treatment are much higher than for heartworm prevention and must be administered very carefully. Usually, a topical treatment is given first to test for sensitivity to Ivermectin. Generally speaking, the dosage for heartworm prevention of Ivermectin is safe. I've used Revolution for some time and have never had a dog with a reaction to it. It's tragic to hear of this little girl and what she's going through. It could well have been an over-dose as much as sensitivity to it. We'll all be praying that she pulls through. |

| ![]() I am so sorry to hear about your friend's baby. Please know that prayers, and lots of 'em, are coming her way from us. I have used Ivermectin 65 micrograms forever for all of my younguns without problems. That is only once a month. I CANNOT imagine how overdosed that poor baby was with all those doses. I know that more is given for mites. Many years ago I had a tiny boy with sarcoptic mange and he was dosed weekly for 6 weeks but no where near the doses that baby was. I use half a vial of Frontline plus for flea/tick prevention and that does the trick. My dogs do not go off the deck, though, but ticks still find their way on the deck. They get on me but not the kids. And, it certainly is NOT your fault but I know you will blame yourself. Try not to, okay? Give your friend our best wishes and prayers for the very best outcome for her little one. |

| ![]() ok good news she has pneumonia now but came out of sedated state yesterday and ate. She dodged a bullet and yorkie prayers again. I just want to let you know the sequence of events and final reasoning for all this so it does not happen to another dog. Multiple oral dosing of ketoconazole increases dog exposure to ivermectin What happened is Ketoconazole should never be given with ivermectin. Keto allows the ivermectin to break the blood brain barrier thus allowing the drug to go to the brain causing seizures, coma and death in many cases. Ivermectin is a drug that affects neurologically the mites and heartworm thus killing them which in high doses if it breaks the blood brain barrier wall can do to your pet. Sophie was on ivermectin off and on for a year at .11 the problem was it was increased and given with ketoconazole which should have never been done and dermatologist admitted her mistake. Now for the other errors sophie was sedated thursday at 8:00 am at vets office then stopped at 10:00 am but did not come to all day -- my vet said it is like sleeping beauty they wake up after days so told me to tell her to hang in there. Well she was transported to specialty hospital where they sedated her with a drug called Midazalom which is like valium sedating sophie for 24 hrs to stop seizures but sophie stopped seizing 24 hrs prior but do to her having tremors trying to detox they thought it was seizures and sedated her and she could not swallow so they suctioned her trachea causing fluid to go to the lungs now pneumonia -ugh then she had a fever and was transported to the hospital where derm is an hour a way to cut down costs and for her to help care for her with a team of specialists. She was transported with a hot water bottle ( bc ivermectin toxicity causes body temp to drop) and she had a fever so could have caused her to seize again so another error. Luckily she did not seize she was now diagnosed with pneumonia friday and treated with antibiotics and fluids and no sedation drugs and she came out of state yesterday and ate and hopefully will be home today. what a disaster but she is obviously a fighter despite all the errors she still lived -- Yorkies are tough. Please when you get drugs from your vet call the manufacturer and ask questions before giving your dog drugs and if your dog has a reaction stop drug immediately and always go with your gut if you feel something is just not right as we know our dogs better than anyone. |

| ![]() We are sending prayers!!! Demodectic mange can be difficult to treat and it seems like any of the ways it gets treated can cause a problem.
