| My Yorkie is acting strange after trip to the groomers I took my yorkie (5 yrs old) to the groomers on Fri. He absolutely hates to be combed & is usually stand offish for a day or 2 after being groomed. But this time, he's acting really strange and for a longer time. All he wants to do is lay in his basket, be held, or lay in his kennel. He only goes in his kennel on his own when he's sick, scared, mad, or sad. He won't eat or drink unless we hand feed him and put his water up to his mouth. He's peeing & pooing but as soon as he comes in the door, he runs straight to his basket or kennel. He's also scratching himself more than usual and licking his paws. I have checked him for fleas, cuts, burns, etc but can't find anything. I noticed the skin on the top of his head seems a little pinker than usual but he doesn't seem to be bothered by it. I don't think he's in pain but he is obviously uncomfortable and certainly not himself. My DH thinks he'll be fine and that I just need to give him time. Have any of you experienced this type of behavior with your babies? What could have happened at the groomer's to traumatize him so much? ~~Lisa |

| Perhaps you'll never know. It is possible he was sedated? If not something really scared him. Listen to your dog. He is telling you something. I had an experience with my dog biting the groomer. No bad but bad enough that he needed to be muzzled or sedated the next time. Something happened and I'll never no what it was. I learned to groom him myself and never took him back. He was 3 when this happened, last year at this time to be exact. When I groom him around his right back paw he goes after my hand to warn me he's frightened. Something, I believe hurt him there and he still reacts to it. Learn to groom and stop your worry because our pet's can't talk to us and tell us but we can listen to them when they react this way. I am sure there is a reason. |

| I believe he was traumatized in some way. My dog used to act that way after a groom as well. First, this groomer kept him there all day. Then I would go to get him and they would say how "bad" he was. Bad? This dog is the most easygoing dog around. It just didn't sound right to me. I've since found a great groomer, who grooms while you wait. So, we're in and out within a reasonalble time. Less stress overall. My dog doesn't mind the groomer at all and is his usual wonderful self afterward. Learn to groom or certainly find a different groomer.

| Can you call the groomer and ask what was used on him? Maybe he is allergic to something they use? Personally, I don't trust groomers anymore - especially if they won't let you watch. I can understand that if your dog won't cooperate while you watch, but otherwise, why not be able to? I have started grooming all of mine, too. Of course they don't have that "professional" look to them, but they look fine. I hope your little guy recuperates fast. |

| Thanks so much for your suggestions. Teddy is better but still not himself. I just wish there was something I could do. I will definitely take him to someone else or learn to groom him myself. I may not be a qualified yorkie groomer but at least I would have peace of mind. ~Lisa |

Since I've been on YT I can't believe all the horror stories about what happen to the dogs that went to a groomer. I've never had any of mine groomed by anyone but me and I'm so happy about that. Give your baby lots of hugs and reassurance, and invest in some good scissors and clipper. | |
