| I'm so sorry this is happening to you. Thanks for the update. I'm glad to hear he is doing a little better. Have you spoken to the breeder. I know what the contract says but speak to them. Hopefully they are kind enough to help. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Best of luck in your decision, I hope you keep the breeder informed of all of this. Breeders really need to take more responsibility for the health of the pups they produce. By the time people find out that their dog has problems, they are thoroughly in love with the dog, and can't just return them to the breeder for another pup. I just read your reply, do you have to return the dog to get the money?

| No, we don't have to return Cruiser to get our money back so we would have $800 to go toward the surgery. |

| Sending thoughts and prayers for you and your baby. I hope something works out for you on the cost of surgery. These little ones are such a part of the family. When they are ill, it breaks our hearts. Sending hugs your way.

| My husband said we can do whatever I want to do. I want to get him the surgery. I just wish we could find a place to do it for under $2,000. Thanks everyone for your warm wishes. |

| I am so sorry about the diagnosis, but at least it is treatable. I'm glad your husband is in favor of the surgery. Have you spoken to his breeder? Will she help with the expenses? Some breeders will go above and beyond what is stated in the health guarantee to do the right thing. |

| The breeder will either give us our money back ($800) or a new puppy. She did pay for the bile acid test ($40). |

| Can you use the $800 from the breeder as a downpayment on the surgery and then set up a payment plan with the vet? Call the vet-I'm sure they get rerquests like this every day.

| Do you know what his pre and post bile levels were? That sometimes helps to give an idea of whether is it MVD or one shunt...the higher the numbers the more indicative that it is a shunt...but that is not always the case..there are exceptions... I would also reccomend the University of Tennesse their prices are not only cheaper but they are very experienced in MVD/LS. I have a Yorkie with MVD but if it had ended up being one shunt I was going to go to UT and I am from MA, but in the end it would have been cheaper for me to travel to UT then to have it done in Boston.... and that is what they are known for...so for me it was also their reputation....

| I know you are trying to help but we live in Minnesota. Tennessee is too far away. I don't know what MVD or LS is but our vet said it is a liver shunt. |

MVD is microvascular dysplasia (small shunting throughout the liver). If the only thing done was a bile acid test, the vet could not know if it is a shunt or MVD. I think when you figure in travel expenses, UT is comparable (or cheaper for some people) than getting it done anywhere else. Since they are the best, that is where most people recommend. I think it important to look at success rate and complications after surgery (like seizures). I don't know anything about University of Minnesota. They might do very good as well but I haven't heard that.
