Senior Yorkie Talker | Did He Have A Seizure?? A few weeks ago, my mom told me Daemar was outside crying so she brought him in the house. He didn't want to walk for a minute or two and he seemed like he was leaning on one side to relieve pressure. Well, he had a slight limp and when he sat down, he was shaking a little. It was hot outside, and he was playing out there with my little sister for a while, so I don't think he was cold. Then, like 2 minutes later, he got up, and started playing again. A friend told me the same thing happened to her Shih-Tzu, and that the doctor told her it was hypoglycemia. Soo, I treated him for that (no meds-- did what the vet told me to do in case of hypoglycemia) and he seems fine since then. Did he have a seizure?? He didn't go pale. His gums looked normal. My dad said he might've got his foot stuck in between a couple of step stones (which of course I removed from his play area) but why would he be shivering like that? --Oh yeah, the reason I'm writing so late is because until today I believed it was hypoglycemia, until I read a post on here a few minutes ago..... |

| He was leaning to one side? It could have been hypoglycemia or a seizure. If it continues you might have a Bile Acid Test done to check for liver shunt. I have friends that have had yorkies with Atlanto-axial subluxation as well and they showed neurological symptoms, cried out in pain, and leaned on things as they walked.

I pray it's not liver shunt. Neither one of his parents had it....Nor his grandparents, so hopefully, it's not. And also, he threw up afterwards, and the morning after. There was no blood, just food so that really made me believe it was hypoglycemia, because he ate all his food, and he normally doesn't eat that fast. | Did this episode happen awhile after eating or before eating?

| Doesn't really sound like a seizure to me. Shaking can be a sign of pain. Most likely your dad is right and your baby just hurt himself. When my Bailey hurt her leg she leaned to one side and was shaking because it was hurting her. We took her to the vet and she was given an anti-inflamatory for a few days and she was good as new. Hope this hopes to ease your fears a little bit. You can always take him to the vet just to make sure and give yourself some piece of mind. |

| If you were to say it happened after being without food for awhile, then I would say hypoglycemia, but since you say it happened AFTER eating, I would definitely have a bile acid test. This type of neurological symptom is consistent with liver problems. It happens after meals because the ammonia from the protein in the food builds up, enters the blood system, and causes neurological symptoms...

| Did he have a thorn or sticker in his pad or toes? Check each one of them... really carefully for any small cuts.
