| Paw Pad Injury I was messing with Ellie's feet earlier and noticed that the pad under one of her toes on her back food is torn. The tear is probably more than 1/2 centimeter but the pad didn't come off. It is just setting on there and I can move this piece and it hangs. It might be almost between her toes but it is definately padding, not skin. I see no blisters or cuts. It really doesn't seem too painful, but then how can it not be? Anyone ever deal with this and what did you do? The internet says do this and that and if it doesn't heal soon, see a vet, but I don't want it to get infected or Ellie to be in pain. She will see the vet in a day or two if need be.

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | can you clean it and then maybe put some antibiotic cream and bandage it up so it can get a chance to heal? That way walking won't make it open up again?

My concern is that it will close up and heal with infection underneath (which evidently can happen). Thanks for the advice. I will probably do that in the morning while I debate whether or not to go to the vet. Any idea how to banaged it? She won't tolerate anything like socks on her paws.

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | I know my dad had a pitbull that had a torn pad years ago and he cleaned it with perioxide and then put neosporin or triple antibiotic cream on it. Then he got some gauze and medical tape and then wrapped it and made a small paw cast. That is the best thing because it stopped any dirt from getting on it. You will see if there is infection because it will be pussy. Dad also had given him a shot of penicillin to combat any infection.

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Believe it or not super glue will hold it together until it heals and it is still safe to walk on. Our friend had a shepard and it got cut with a piece of glass. The vet super glued it together and had my friend put more glue on every few days. It healed fine.

| I have a spray-on pet bandage from 3M-I think I got it at Target or maybe PetSmart? It comes in a travel size container, and mine came in a green package on one of those cardboard things so it can hang (just to help you find it). That works well on foot pads at our house-I have used it when they have kind of skinned up their feet, and after a few days it wears off. I would be careful with the regular liquid bandages they sell for people-some of that stuff has anti-infectants in it, and it BURNS like no other on me, I can't imagine how that would feel on a yorkie's foot

| Okay, I used peroxide and Panalog on it, then I wrapped and taped it. Ellie is not happy. If it needs to be glued I will let the vet do it. It looks like that piece needs to come off, so I don't know what to do.

| We are going to the vet tomorrow. It looks okay but I want the vet to clip the part that is hanging. She needs something for her ear anyway (yeast infection that is definately not going away on its own). I am changing the bandage 2-3 times a day for now but she is chewing it, so she has to wear an e-collar when I can't watch her.

My Taylor did that about 2 years ago and if she used her paws she would irritate it till it would bleed. she was smart enough to use her paws to push open the sliding glass doors. I washed it and put antibiotic ointment on it. I took her to the vet the next day and he had to put suture it but since it wasn't a fresh wound he had to reopen it up for it to heal correctly and heal with a deformity? this wound was big. I never understood why I never saw blood anywere when she first injured it. The wound never deterred her from opening up the door even though it may of been painful. the vet had told me if I had caught it when it first opened it I could have used super glue or a wound adhesive like others had indicated. any more the older I get I don't trust my eye sight with small wounds. I would go to the vet. I don't even like trimming nails any more with the hair how it grows off the foot and between the toes. I hate pulling hair and causing pain. | |

| How awful. I'll be watching to see what the vet does.

| We just got back from the vet and all is well. She has another yeast infection which I knew. The paw looks okay. It is concerning though that it is starting on her other back foot. Sometimes they do peel but if it were to on for a long time, a biopsy may have to be done. Because it is hard to biopsy a pad, the toe is sometimes taken. So, as long as it clears up in a reasonable amount of time it should be okay. The vet said I could cut the parts that are hanging.

| Is Ellie May on probiotics? Those would be very helpful for her especially if she gets yeast infections.

She probably should be but there are so many supplements that are supposed to be good that at some point I think it is just too much. She already gets Denosyl and fights me on it a little bit. She should be on fish oil but I haven't found one I like. Now she may need something for her joints. Sooo, I'm not opposed to the idea but I just want to be convinced that it is necessary and worth the expense and hassle. You are probably right though. Maybe they would help her.
