It looks like that piece needs to come off, so I don't know what to do.

My Taylor did that about 2 years ago and if she used her paws she would irritate it till it would bleed. she was smart enough to use her paws to push open the sliding glass doors. I washed it and put antibiotic ointment on it.
I took her to the vet the next day and he had to put suture it but since it wasn't a fresh wound he had to reopen it up for it to heal correctly and heal with a deformity? this wound was big. I never understood why I never saw blood anywere when she first injured it. The wound never deterred her from opening up the door even though it may of been painful. the vet had told me if I had caught it when it first opened it I could have used super glue or a wound adhesive like others had indicated.
any more the older I get I don't trust my eye sight with small wounds. I would go to the vet.
I don't even like trimming nails any more with the hair how it grows off the foot and between the toes.
I hate pulling hair and causing pain.
