| Hmmm Ellie was in pain after her spay and very tired for about a day then kind of tired for about a week. If she is pooping, peeing, drinking and eating some and her gums are pink, she should be okay. Poor girl ![]() Some people describe the recovery from a spay as not a big deal but I will say it was very difficult for us (especially the first night).

If you mean she was licking her incision through the onesie, I'd use the e-collar. The last thing she needs is an infection.

| well, tonight we decided to use her e-collar since she soaked her onesie. this means that she has to sleep in her super yard play pen instead of her crate so i hope she adjusts well. she HATES her e-collar and simply does not move at all when it's on her. i basically had to force her to lay down when we put her into her play pen. she still has the shakes, but seems to be doing better. she is just so out of it still and i can only hope it's her medication.

| Since it has been four days, how would you feel about stop the pain med for a day to see if she perks up? Ellie was spayed on a Wed. and by Saturday we were just about done with her meds. If she starts shakng worse though, I would guess it is a sign of pain and start the meds again...

on the positive side, her incision looks really good and the pinkness is even starting to go away. she did okay with her e-collar last night other than just lying completely still and not knowing how to react to the strange thing. thank you for all of your support! i think i will call the vet to see if they recommend taking her off of her pain meds. she only has one dose left but it is 24 hour medicine so she will have it in her system until at least tonight. i'll keep you all updated. i am feeling much better now that she is recovering a little... she is still not my peanut that i know and love, but hopefully we'll get there soon.

| just talked to the vet. the doctor said the medication can be known to cause grogginess and depression along with many other symptoms. since it is day 4, i think we'll not give it to her and hope to see improvements by tomorrow. did your babies have any pain after day 4? that is my only concern...

| Ellie was not herself for over a week but she was in a onesie and doesn't like to be dressed, so that could have easily been her problem. Some vets don't give pain meds at all ( ), so it is definately okay to stop them now. I wouldn NOT let her jump yet. She should not resume normal activity at 5 days. Usually they make you wait until suture removal. Ellie jumped a day or two after her spay and thank God nothing happened but it could have been serious. I wouldn't let her jump for at least a week (haha...that usually doesn't work...but trying is what counts. ).Honestly, Ellie's belly hurt when I touched it wrong a couple months after surgery because her internal stitches weren't dissolving correctly (immune system wasn't attacking them). This isn't common though, so she may or may not be in pain for awhile.

I would defenetly suggest you take her off the meds. by day four she shouldn't be in any pain, just maybe irritated cause it itches! When I took Roxi on day three my vet said she shouldn't be feeling any more pain to justify pain meds!! Good luck and I know your baby will be just fine!! XX

| without meds peanut seems a litt le more herself... but there are still a few things that are not the same as they were before surgery. for one, she is still walking around with her tail down almost hunched over most of the time. she has the occasional tail wag... but her tail is down otherwise. also, her nose has been kind of runny with drips of moisture. also, she has sneezed more than normal too. lastly, she does not know any of her tricks! she used to know how to sit, stay, speak, come, down, leave it, and "up" but this morning when i tried to review she just looked at me like i was the idiot. i know she may just be healing still. it's so hard to believe i did the right thing by spaying her right now though because she isn't our baby that we know and love. in addition, she still seems in pain and she is also more easily scared and on pins and needles.
