Peanut's Spay. Peanut got spayed this morning and finished by 10am. The vet kept her though and gave her a shot of morphine for pain. She will get another shot at 2pm and I get to pick her up at 4pm. I'm so nervous! I feel so bad for her because she probably has no idea what's going on... poor baby. I read some threads on here and I may invest in some baby onesies to help keep her from bothering her stitches. They offered me "laser" surgery rather than standard "scalpel" surgery and said it had less bleeding, etc. I didn't opt for it because it's already so expensive at $275... you would think they would throw in the laser anyways. Any tips on what to expect? I know she will not be normal for a while... I just don't know what to expect or what kinds of changes will be expected. Any info would be great, I'm a worried momma! |
Well when i had my Bailey spayed, the vet kept her overnight for observation so i was going even more crazy than you probably are right now. It was the first time ever being away from her. Well when i picked her up the following afternoon she was very groggy and all she wanted to do was sleep. She would whine from time to time but for the most part all she wanted to do was snuggle. Just try to keep ur baby as comfortable as possible and no jumping/running. By the next day she was like her old self again and i swore she was going to pop a stitch but she turned out to be just fine. As for the onesies, my vet sent Bailey home in a little sock type thing to keep her from getting to her stitches but she never even tried to get at them at all. We worry so much about them but they're really very strong. Hope everything works out well for you. |
Poor peanut! She will be very tired and out of it when you bring her home... and also I don't think they are allowed to eat right away either. When Lola was spayed it took her longer than i thought for her to recover... Little peanut should be back to her old self in a few days. Just remember keep a look out for the sutures... Lola tried to rip hers out! |
When Lulu was spayed she came home very groggy. Didn't do much but sleep. The next day she was back to normal. I would suggest you keep her calm and no running or jumping. They snap back pretty fast. I never did the onsie thing with Lulu. She never touched her stitches. Good luck. |
well... she's home and very groggy. i felt better about it thought once my husband pulled into the garage and peanut heard the garage door and came out of her crate. she has slept most of the evening, or almost slept anyways... she is whimpering quite a bit, but we have pain meds to give her. i think i will give her some soon. she has licked her sutures a couple times... i am worried about overnight when i won't really be able to tell her "no" when she tries to lick. poor baby.... i just feel so bad for her! |
:aimeeyork :aimeeyork Roxi just got fixed on Friday, however she was a little worse cause she also has 14 teeth pulled and a microchip put in!! My Dr told me it would be best to do it all at once to avoid anesthesia more times than necessary. We had a little more complications cause of all she had done but you will be amazed how tough they are!! Your baby will be just fine, lots of love and kissies for her.. I was up two nights i a row watching her like an obsessed momma! Just wanted to give you a word to calm you, everyone hear is so great and always willing to help, the people in here are amazing and helped me thru the last few days.. Bless them!! Lots O' Luv Peanut!! XX Melanie & Roxi |
what a turn around! peanut is doing SO much better today! she jumped on the couch 3 times so far... not a good thing, but a true sign she is back to her normal self. i am so relieved. i thought for sure she was on her way to a slow recovery. now to just stop her from licking her incision! |
today was a good day... but she seems really tired tonight, way earlier than normal too. is this normal? |
I would say yeah totally.. Surgery is harder on them than it seems, they try to be so tough.. Roxi is still tired and her surgery was friday, although she had alot more done.. But your little peanut needs rest!! |
It is definitly normal for them to feel tired. My mother just rescued a great dane that had been hit on the side of the road and she waited until she fully recovered before spaying her. All she did was sleep and mope around. We just set her up a big comfy bed by the fireplace and she loved it. Great danes are a lot calmer than yorkies though. They do not have that spring of energy :) I am sure she will be fine. I am so happy you had her spayed as well! :aimeeyork :animal-pa :aimeeyork |
thanks for the info... i'm hoping that it is normal fatigue and not depression. she is tired today too and didn't wake up at her normal 6am. i had to wake her up and now she is lying down again after she ate a little soft food. she had a little bit of hair tangled in her stitches from her leg... i gently pulled it away and trimmed what was left on her legs so it wouldn't happen again. i hope i didn't bother the incision too much. thanks for all the info and positive thoughts! i decided to stay home with her today to watch her and make sure she is okay... i did have plans to go out of town but she is just too important to me! :) |
well, let's add shivering to her symptoms. she literally laid around all day and did not get up except for when i got her up to eat or drink or go potty. i'm hoping she will improve soon... i'm such a worry wart. |
Poor baby. The shivering could be that she is still in some pain and uncomfortable. If your still worried you could check with your vet. I know when Cali was spayed, she was in heat and they had to check for an obstruction and do a liver biopsy. they kept her for 2 days and when she came home she was still so lethargic. She really took a full week before she was acting more normal. |
