My prayers are with you. Think positive not negative thoughts. Maybe it will be a simple thing they can just give her medicine for. I'll keep praying for that.

Hi Kim, My 3 year old Yorkie just had surgery for her collapsed trachea. After doing some research, and contacting the National Yorkshire terrier Rescue for support and guidance I traveled to Tennessee for her surgery to be preformed~ I was surprised how many Yorkies are treated there for liver shunts. Dr. Tobias of the University of TN. Veterinary Teaching Hospital has an amazing reputation for treating Yorkies with Liver problems. She is currently conducting some new exciting studies. From what I heard, liver shunt dogs have better treatment options than ever, and they do very well after surgery. I wish the outlook was a bright for collapsed trachea...Kara

Kim, I, too was impressed with Dr. Tobais. Long story that is better left untold, but anyway there was a question about my new little boy and Liver Shunt. I emailed Dr. Tobais with results from a blood profile asking her if in her professional opinion she felt like liver shunt was involved. Within 24 hours I had a response...... The point here is that she took her time to respond to a person who was NOT her client -- she cared! ...... and in her professional opinion, my little one was not a candidate for Liver Shunt. Additional testing has verified her very expert opinion. If I ever faced a Liver Shunt issue, I would track down Dr. Tobais, where ever she was and beg her to be my Vet..... Good Luck!!!

An abnormal liver test is not necessarily a sign of a serious problem. Last edited by chattiesmom; 07-30-2005 at 07:40 AM.

| Hopefully it isn't liver shunt, but if so--surgery can repair it. Keep us posted. We wish you and your baby all the best.

I am so sorry to hear about your puppy. My puppy was diagnosed with liver shunt about 3 months ago (he was 4 months old at the time). They immediatly did surgery to close off the shunt and he is doing great now! His bile acids have not come down yet, but we are hoping they will within the next few months. He is such a happy little puppy that you would never know anything had happened to him. My prayers are with you and your puppy! Brooke & "Max"
