| Tatum needs surgery Zoe, my little 4lb girl had surgery on 1 of her legs in 04'. You will need to keep her quite for about 6 weeks, and she will never be able to jump any more. That is the hard part for us, keeping her grounded. Be prepared for loose stools from the medicine and for her lack of appetite. Have some nutrastat handy. Zoe has to be put back on Medicam from time to time for arthritis caused from the surgery. I would take her to the groomer and have her hair cut as short as possible because I had to put Zoe in the bathtub every day for weeks for physical therapy and she hated the hairdryer twice a day. Remember, we have to do difficult things to help our little babies. |

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | Update.... Just wanted to give you all a little update on Tator Tot I took her back to the vet today for a check up (the vet wanted to see her again to make sure that the infection that she had is gone). Well, he said that it is definitely looking better, but since it was a skin infection (around her nose/mouth) he wanted to put her BACK on meds She was on her last meds for 2 weeks, and she will be on these for another 2 weeks. He said that with any type of skin infections he likes to keep them on meds for at least a month. So...that is what we are doing now...taking MORE meds So again, more waiting on the LP surgery. He didn't seem to be bothered by this and definitely thinks I should wait until everything with her is totally, 100% cleared up. So we will see what happens after she is done with this round of meds SIGH....I really did not want anymore of this. Poor little Tatum just HATES HATES HATES taking her meds I have to fight her for about half an hour each time (she takes 2 diff meds, each twice a day) - it is SUCH a big production around here when it is time to give meds, lol One of the meds that she is on (it is the pill, for itching) he said that we can actually keep her on for life for her allergies if I want to He said that after these next 2 weeks, if I want to keep her on it, I can either give it to her once or twice a day, whatever I choose. He said it won't cause her any harm...it's just for itching. Yikes, don't know about her being on pills for the rest of her life Anyway, I just wanted to give you all an update since it has been a while and so many people have been asking about how she's been doing (thank you!) I will continue to update as I find out more info (although it will probably be a few weeks). Big hugs to you all and thanks again sooo much for all of your care, concern and prayers - it means the world to me!

| I am glad to hear an update. Mine also hate pills, I have tried to disguise them in cheese, meats & peanut butter and they will eat the treat and spit out the pill. Now I either crush it in their wet food (they always lick the bowl clean) or put it in a pill pocket. Good luck with that! Keeping Tatum in our prayers!

She is also on liquid med too and I think she hates that even worse! Poor baby...she throws her head around everywhere back and forth and sticks her little tongue out makes this awful hacking noise She stays mad at me for about an hour or so after medicine time...and the LOOK she gives me... Oh geez lol.

| I had Otis on hydroxyzine for allergies for a long time, I put the pill in a very small piece of american cheese slice. He loved it and rarely spit the pill out. For the liquid medicine, I squirted it on a little piece of bread, he'd gulp it right down.

| Hope Tatum is doing better! Have you tried putting her pill in a little bit of peanut butter? Scooter will take anything if it's in peanut butter! |

| My poor little Tator. I think about her often. Like the others said, try using food to disguise her meds! From what you say...eating is a high priority for Tate!! LOL!! (hugs)

| I've been fooling cosmo into taking his meds. by giving him chicken and sneaking it in..but he has neuro trauma so that could be why he doesn't realize...but it can't hurt to try for lil tater tot. Last edited by Marcellacml; 02-23-2008 at 10:06 AM. |
