| If you are starting with just 1 cup of flour, you don't need to add too much of anything other, b/c it's gonna be too wet. 1 cup of flour 1 tablespoon of oil 1 tablespoon of mashed potato 1 tablespoon of apple sauce (water is going to be ify here, just do that last as you might only need a tiny tiny bit or none at all) Again, you'll have to play around with the ingredients and measurements. I have mead so many 'blah and burnt treats' but ya know what, mine still eat them and want more - go figure |

| ok- just got bk from the store. I got unbleached white flour AND also rye flour. I read that rye bread is low oxalate so maybe rye flour would be ok. it says for ingredients on the box: 100% whole grain rye flour but i wont use it if someone says its not a good idea. I got the unbleached white bc it's supposed to be better than all purpose flour I also got the salflower oil and unsweetened applesauce. I couldn't remember where blueberries and cranberries fell on the list but i just checked and they are "moderate" so maybe i should not use those at all. or if maybe a JUST tad bit wouldn't hurt? what do you think? Picked up a cute little bone cookie cutter too! You would think i am starting a dog cookie business with the amount of research and thought i have put into this. the cranberries i got are the ocean spray canned not dried- i read that dried cranberries are on the moderate list i am needing to find out if rye flour i guess is on the low oxalate list somewhere.. :-))))) Last edited by sadiesamie; 02-02-2008 at 01:57 PM. |

| I don't really have a clue as to the rye flour As far as how long they should last, well, using 1 cup of flour to start isn't going to yeild too many treats, so that's good and you are not using anything that needs to be kept refrigerated so you don'y have to worry about them going ransid. They will be fine and they won't last too long, b/c they will eat them Last edited by TLC; 02-02-2008 at 02:51 PM. |

| This is what i found on line... Low Oxalate Recipe: Swedish Rye Cookies I was at Win-Co Foods today buying items for my new Low-Oxalate diet. As I was getting dark rye flour in the bulk section, I noticed a free recipe. It was for Swedish Rye Cookies. As chocolate and cocoa are high oxalate food items I've been wondering what shall fill my sweet tooth. I have to be honest, I've had better cookies. But these had a nice shortbread texture and were slightly sweet. Great for an afternoon snack with a cup of coffee! Swedish Rye Cookies, Recipe from Win-Co Foods: *CameraDawktor has changed flour ingredients to make it low oxalate* Ingredients: 1/2 c. butter, softened 1/4 c. white sugar 3/4 c. rye flour 3/4 c. white rice flour 1/8 tsp. baking powder 1/4 tsp. salt * this was how i got the idea on the rye flour. let me just add that i did not use this recipe to make the dog cookies. I only used the rye flour :-) Last edited by sadiesamie; 02-02-2008 at 03:41 PM. |

| Always glad to help. I just don't like adding a whole bunch of crap, so I cut everything out and went to the basics, and it works |

Welllll...i finished them and as they were cooling i broke off a tiny little piece and gave it to the girls. I always start with a super small piece of something new and as I was typing the last note I heard Sadie next to me doing something and when i looked she had puked it up? I don't know why? :-( maybe tomorrow i will try a batch with only the white flour. Last edited by sadiesamie; 02-02-2008 at 04:24 PM.

| my little angel had the same problem the specialist did BAT and post levels were high..she wanted to do US and if that was normal, biopsy and other dye studies. I had the US done but refused the biopsy, he was almost 11 yrs old and had heart problems as well as the collapsed trachea and I just couldn't put him thru all that not knowing if he would even survive it.. the US was normal so we put him on lactulose and denosyl. None of it helped, so I am wondering if that was even the problem. what kind of symptoms is she having. I am not trying to sound discouraging, just sharing and basically trying to find out what happened with my baby.. |

she has NO syptoms of any kind. THe only reason she had bat done was bc she fainted one morning (we later found out if was bc of a fight over their food the second day i started wetting it) so vet wanted to run more blood tests. Her numbers went up after a month on the Denamarin but i also had changed a few things with her diet (incently not knowing that i was supposed to do exactly what we were doing the month before) meaning feed the same way. well i added 3 more things to her diet and pretty much increased a lot of protein. started giving her gobs of wellness canned food on top of her reg food and wellness wellbites for snacks-also adding a dry snack (nat balance duck and potato dry treats) The biopsy she wanted to do though she said she would be lightly sedated for only 5 min and they would go in with a small needle and grab a tiny bit of tissue. she would not be completely under. the sedation only to keep her still. 781.00 for that test and 98.00 for a coulaggutaion test that would have to be done 48 hrs before the biopsy. we just got done spending over 5200.00 the past 6 mos on other tests with my other yorkie. so we do not have it. the vet gets so test happy and then 1000 dollars later then we go to see a specialist. My other dog has Gloumelular disease -but it took the specialist to determine that. with Samie- instead of rush into the biopsy ---we decided to change her diet and lower protein and also start her on the Ursodiol as well to see if anything changes. if not- we are going to the specialist then. for now she is keeping her paws crossed. and if she needs the biopsy then i guess we have no choice. for now it is just on hold.

| shelby ran around like a puppy too until he would start having these "tremors" that I am still not sure were not seizures of some sort but that is why the specialist thought he may have LS but she never believed he was having tremors either (she decided he was just nervous) however 2 ER docs and his reg vet saw what I was talking about.. I wish I had know about this sight a few months ago, I might have saved him some suffering or maybe his precious life. |
