she has not had any crystals for 3 mos now- since we started giving her the potassium citrate granules every day. I may have to home cook if they cant stay on the wellness... do you home cook or feed raw? i can't remember.

Liver compromised dogs should not eat raw.

yes i know raw is not good for liver problems. But I was thininking if she home cooks maybe she has some ideas as how and what to cook. I would be too afraid that i was leaving something out but I guess it's possible to do. I just don't have a lot of info on it. I will home cook before i put my babies on pres food.

As for your question does Yorkieluv feed raw or homecooked, I happen to know she cooks.

She is very good at all this food stuff.

I homecook for my liver compromised (whatever the problem is) doggie also and so does TLC.

The supplements are a bit difficult to get just right though.

ok, so no brown rice, apples or carrots - that's ok

There are lots of flours that you can use:
Whole Wheat
White Plain Flour
Rye Flour
Barley Flour

And then you can add anything else that you want that they can have....

I will just throw things out there:
Peanut Butter ??
Butter Nut Squash ??
Celery ??
Zucchini ??
Berries?

Really all you need is
1.) A Flour
2.) Water
3.) A little bit of an Oil
4.) Endless - Anything else you want to mash up and add

To start - put all your wet stuff together (use only about 1 tbsp of oil, about 1/3 cups of 'whatever else' and mix that together). Then slowly add and mix the flour (probably about 1 cup), and then add some water a little at a time, probably no more than 1/4 cup. You'll have to play around with it a little, but it should pretty much be right on. Then roll out and use cookie cutters. Try to make them more on the flat side. Bake at 320 or 300 depending on how your oven cooks. Try baking for at least 12 mins and then test them, maybe they need a little more time - just watch so they don't burn.

That's all - it's really simple - and honestly, most doggies love ANY kind of cookie you give them, so it doesn't have to be too flavorful

Hepatosupport contains milk thistle and vitamin B's...
Vetri-DMG comes in liquid form and is supposed to basically do the same thing as Denosyl (Sam-E)...
These two do Not need to be given on an empty stomach...
Denamarin, on the other hand, needs to be given on an empty stomach, so morning time, 1 hr before their first feeding is the best time that I can recommend.

Are you familiar with the Ursodiol? I am unsure if i should give this at 7pm with her soloxine or should I wait a few hours after giving the Soloxine. I just don't know if giving her all 3 meds at the same time is a good idea (she would have soloxine, Flovent, Ursodiol) It has been 2 1/2 hours since I gave her the Flovent, and Soloxine tonight. I am debating if i should give her the Ursodiol now or wait and do it all tomorrow at 7pm with the other meds. I just don't know the right time to give it to her. Is this another "works better on an empty stomach med" ??? or should i give after eating?

I am giving it to her the first time today, I hope she doesn't get diarrhea. Why am i so nervous to give this to her? :-(

I am going to think of some things that they can have. I checked out the low oxalate food list too and not that many appealing things. (mushrooms, celery things like that) I guess i will pick one of the moderate and a few others I can find and see what i come up with. (You would think i was eating it -the way I am thinking about how i can make really good treats! LOL

Celery sounds good. I don't know if dogs really are supposed to have mushrooms though...

I found some (Old Mother Hubbard brand) Liv'r Crunch baked snacks way back in the pantry. the ingred are listed as follows: wheat flour, oatmeal, chicken liver, molasses, chicken fat, caramel, cultured whey, eggs, ground apples, ground carrots, garlic, onions, sea salt.

I have to do that bc the wet food wont stick unless i use a large amount of it. like 2 pieces of food that are wet and that's too much.

and I gave them the Old Moth Hubb treats until i make some today. I only gave her a speck and she was content with that. the tinest little piece was all.

do you think it's okay that i use mollases in the treats i make? I am open to ideas as i am clueless. :-) i shouldn't use any meat in them. How about some chicken base or chicken broth? would that hurt?

I don't know why Old Mother Hubbard uses onions but they should never be given to dogs. Garlic is okay for normal dogs in very small amounds. Both can cause anemia.

The Old Mother Hubbard Liv'r treats are no good for liver compromised dogs...Liver is one of the worst things you can give them. It's very difficult for them to metabolize liver and it overworks their liver so much.

Keep in mind the foods that he can and can't have...That b-naturals link I sent you before is really important to read and really look at the foods. Even though your baby hasn't had stones, those types of stones are recurring...One of our members here, Yorkieshadow, has been dealing with calcium oxalate with her little guy for awhile...He's already had to have two surgeries even though she's been following his protocol by the book.
