| We have a couple of Maltese on the forum I belong to with asymptomatic MVD. One is a patient of Dr. Center, one of Dr. Dodds. Dr. Dodds' patient is on a diet of 1/3 white fish (i.e. sole, whitefish, cod, tilapia), 1/3 potato, 1/3 sweet potato diet per Dr. Dodds which is 35% protein. Her ALT dropped 200 points in 3.5 weeks after Dr. Dodds put her on this diet. Dr. Center's patient is on 2-3 grams of high quality protein per kg of body weight per day and is also doing very well. |

what about supplements and vitamins? none of that? I could leave out the sweet potato since it is high oxalate. one of my girls cannot have high oxalate with history of calcuim oxalate crystals. so even feeding 35% (GOOD) quality protein was what she needed then.

the vet wont talk abotu food with us. she only suggest food and she also preoceeded to tell me one time that "food" doesn't really help a condition, onl medication does. So with her telling me that- I wouldn't trust her for anything even if she were to give me the idea of athe magic diet for my girls. not a chance- I will never discuss food with her again. all she wants to do is prescribe hills- and she hates when i talk about yt and hates when i put down pres diets. she told me i can home cook but she never tells me what to use of how to go about it. and- she tells me this in all of about 2 min. she will not spend the time with me- and we cannot switch vets. people keep telling me that and it just isn't going to happen. there is a vet on every corner and my friend that is the vet tech at an emerg vet told me to stay clear away from them. none are good or THAT GOOD.... and she knows that yorkies to not belong ni the hands of just "ANY" vet. plus i have a feeling that we are on our way to be seeing the specialist anyway- he is about 25 miles away, i hope samie does ok in the car for that long. she gets tooooooo excited and then we have ct issues. very scary. does anyone know about the cottage cheese? low fat, fat free, 2 %? need more info on that please. going to buy today.

| It truly sounds like you need a nutritionist...Once you get the results back of the BAT, then you need to consult a nutritionist...You will need to submit bloodwork info and all of your dogs' health histories so that she can make a diet appropriate for your babies.....I seriously think this will be your best route...

| Ellie has a nutritionist. Her name is Dr. Rebecca Remillard. She is president of petdiets.com and also works through Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston (this is how I would contact her). She is one of the best in the world but I don't necessary recommend her because Ellie is on 24% protein (because she feels it is fine). She also doesn't have a problem with her eating red meat. Ellie has no hepatic encephalopathy symptoms... Not everyone would be satisfied with her but I do know she is very good at what she does.

| She also uses a line of supplements called BalanceIT. The BalanceIT K that she uses for liver disease doesn't have menadione in it, so it is fine. The other ones do, so I wouldn't want to use them. All BalanceIT products have things like tryptophan in them which some people don't recommend for liver compromised dogs... I have heard good things about Cornell's nutritionist. Or maybe Dr. Lauten of UT if you don't want to use Dr. Remillard? Or Wylie's Mom has one also...
