I told my entire family about the incident & my mom said, when my grandmother worked in a restaurant years ago & the kitchen staff would try to give her scraps to take home to her dogs, my grandmother would always say don't give me any pork - my dogs are Jewish - so grandma knew dogs should not have that fatty pork - she might not have known why, but she knew (she passed earlier this yr at 103 1/2) I am so sorry for all you have been through, but please know you have helped to educate so many others with your posting

| I had NO idea that ham is bad for a dog!! I never feed my dogs "human" food, just human grade dog food. So I guess that means we can safely eat their food. LOL. Lately I HAVE been giving them beef though.... isn't that ok? Even though it's fatty? We hope Rocco is doing well today! Give us an update as soon as you can. | Hi Everyone, Thanks again for the best wishes and prayers Rocco got to come home tonight. I went to pick him up after work, around 6pm. The Vet said he was ready to go home and he was ready to be introduced to food again, since he responded well to the prescription wet food they gave him. the vet supplied me with 2 types of medicines and 1-2 weeks worth of prescription wet food (it looks like beef and rice mix). When we got home I fed him and gave him his medicine. He then took a long nap. He's still sleeping right now. He seems a little depressed, he was more energetic at the vets office. I'm guessing he's just a little down and tired due to the medications and what he's been through. I was hoping he'd be a little more back to normal. Those of you who have gone thru this, did your yorkie take a little while to go back to normal? Thanks again everyone! I'm so happy he's home with me, but I'm still a little worried. -E

| I am so glad that Rocco is home and hope he has a speedy recovery. I am so glad to find this out about ham. I had no idea and have always given Murfee little bites of my ham Thank goodness he has never gotten sick from it but he has had his last bite of ham!!! I always learn so much from this forum.

Yep...and I was guilty of sharing my turkey bacon with Rocco at breakfast time. The vet also said that during the holidays, this problem is common because everyone wants to give dogs scraps of food and you dont really know how much of that rich fatty foods they've eaten, and because our yorkies are so tiny, they are more prone to this problem. A long term thing I have to do for Rocco is provide him with a tiny piece of pepcid when he eats so that he doesnt get an upset stomach and vomit (he was vomiting a lot. Thanks, -E

| Sending Get Well Wishes to Rocco. Peanut had the same thing when he was little. My Husband gave him New Years leftovers.Block cheese and some cold cuts. Your baby will be fine.No table food. I always keep Pepcid on hand for Peanut. Because he gets Upset tummy sometimes. Also I have extra Metronidazole just incase. You can use Kraft chesse for giving him his meds. Also baby food. But Peanut knows there is meds in his food and spits it out. So I give it direct. It takes two people. One Person to hold the other puts the pill in his mouth. Hugs and Kisses to Rocco. Hope you are feeling better soon.
