| ![]() Where in this thread has anyone made any nasty comments about small yorkies ? I have a different approach to dog ownership to you and don't judge on appearances at all. If a dog needs a home I am here for them everyone of mine have had either something wrong with them or been crosses that have been thrown away - what they look like doesn't enter my head it is there need and whether they can get on with the rest of my dogs. I would personally not take on a smaller yorkie because we have a retriever cross and a big yorkie and like to let them loose in the woods and on the common, I couldn't do that with a tiny dog. We had a tiny chihuahua for 15 years and I expected her to keep up with the other dogs and she did - the vet said it was very unusual for such a small dog to be so fit - and I am convinced it was because we let her be a dog and didn't carry her everywhere that made her fit. As for not being able to afford one - no I can't but do you know why I can't ? It's because all my spare money (we live very simply) goes towards rehoming unwanted animals I'd rather spend £100 on getting 10 dogs into loving homes that £100 on a dog for myself ! |

I agree w/ you bc I really don't think that anyone on this site would intentionally say anything nasty about someone elses dogs. There's nothing wrong w/ owning or buying a small baby for a decent price. But there is a problem w/ paying an outrageous price for a 'small' one that should have cost the same or less than the rest of the litter bc they were lacking in size. It's amazing how defensive people are getting on here bc I truly don't believe what so ever that anyone is trying to put anyone else down. All we are all doing is stating our opinions and the obvious. And the obvious is that 'teacup' yorkies are being bred irresponsibly for crazy prices. To Pixistar, I'm really sorry that you feel people are jealous of you or are hurting your feelings but it really was in a lack of taste what you said previously. Not all yorkie lovers want such a small dog or want or need to spend such a huge amount of money. I could have easily spent over 3 thousand plus on the puppy of my choice. But that to me is ludicrous. There is no reason in the world to pay so much for a baby. There are HUNDREDS or more I'm sure, of decent well respected breeders who don't charge an arm and a leg. And further more I feel it is quite un-classy to talk about how much people pay for their pups anyway. Bc their price, atleast in my mind, is totally irrelevant and unimportant. And just like Julie1 I wouldn't pay that much for a dog bc I spend that money to take care of the four other dogs we adopted and rescued. We saved our terrier mix TA (35lbs+) from the euthanization list at a local pound. I found our golden retriever mix Lady(40lbs+) laying in our yard starving and all beat up. We rescued out retriever/chow Clovis (35lbs+) off the road. And my newest baby Zeus, no idea what breed he is but he's 13lbs full grown, was picked up by my bestfriend Garrett who watched someone through him out of a moving cars windown into the middle of the road!!! He immediately was brought to me and it's been months of hard work to get him to trust that not all people will beat or abandon him. Don't you realize that owning a great dog shouldn't and doesn't have to cost so much? All of my animals bring me joy every day and no one more than the other. If I were to have bought a dog smaller than Harley, meaning 5lbs or under, he/she would have been crushed by my dogs most likely. Amazingly Harley is dominant over ALL my big dogs! So I'm lucky! But the truth is that not all small dogs are unhealthy. And yes small dogs deserve to be loved bc it wasn't their fault that they were bred that small. But if all of us took a step back, considered the consequences of our actions on this breed and made some well informed decisions about how we all go about picking out our little darlings, I think we could stop this nonesense and save this breed. But like I said before, none of this is to upset, offend or criticize anyone. We all have our rights on here to say what we believe or feel and we all have the responsibility of acting like mature adults. So I hope it continues that way. ![]() | |
