What is tiny/small to you?
 
In leu of other discussions here, I wanted to get everyone's opinion. All are welcome!

What is a tiny/small/"teacup" yorkie to you?

I thought 4-7 lbs was the standard and anything under that was a tiny.

2 to 4 is tiny

The standard is anything up to 7 pounds. The desired or average may be 4-7 pounds but a 2 pound yorkie is as much in standard as a 6 pounder.

Oh, I can't even imagine owning a 2 lb yorkie. That just seems SO small. I'd be afraid to break it! :p

I'm a firm beleiver any dog should be first and foremost healthy and able to do the job the breed was intended for in the case of a yorkie it should be able to catch and kill rats. Any under the size to fulfill this criteria should not be being deliberately bred. I voted any under 5 lbs to be tiny/small/"teacup". I'd like to think the "craze" for really tiny dogs will not be here for ever or we could see the end of the Yorkshire Terrier/ Maltese/ Chihuahua as good sound breeds of dog :(

Lucy is 8 pounds and she looks quite small, I know many yorkies larger then her. I also know a yorkie that is about 4 pounds and I think that is tiny! Cant even imagine anything smaller than that!

Pepper whom I lost in April in an accident was 3lbs 2 oz..

I had never had such a small dog. He amazed me because he acted like a dog :) ... kept up with my bigger yorkies even ruled most times... I loved owning him. ..but small has pros and cons....

I couldn't agree more. There's no way in hell I'd want a dog smaller than 4lbs full grown. I feel that Bailey is super fragile and he's on his way to being 5lbs. Too many health problems and early deaths. Not to mention a dog that is 2lbs sure as hell can't catch & kill rats.

I would say 3lbs. and under. 4 to 7lbs is ok with me.

I totally agree w/ you. Bc my Harley is now almost 4lbs + at around 12- 13 weeks and everyone who sees him is like "I thought that Yorkies were supposed to be really tiny dogs??". And it really irritates me that the general public considers 5lb & below yorkies to be the ONLY acceptable weight due to "fashion trends". It is possible to have healthy & happy 5lb & below yorkies but the risks for health problems and genetic disorders are so much higher the smaller the breed runs. And because of the general publics demand on so called "teacup" sized yorkshire terriers (mind the term "teacup" isn't even correct vocab) that these mass producer breeders and even small breeders, breed their smallest males & females together to produce the smallest of small pups and I'm so afraid that the end of the yorkshire terriers (and all other highly demanded small breed dogs) strong breed characteristics might come to an end. :yorkiesar

To me 4 to 7 is standard. To me 3lbs and under is very tiny.

I am curious what health problems tiny yorkies can have, if they seems to be healthy as pups? My little guy is not too small, but this discusion has just made me wonder.. :questione about this?
