| Sure, I let people hold my yorkies - If they are sitting on the floor. We have enough issues.

![]() I don't like other people picking up my dogs. It is unnecessary and it is a big risk. Some of the behavioral problems I have with Teddy stem from people rushing up to him and wanting to scoop him up. I can't say I blame him for being fearful. A lot of people don't know how to hold a dog (or a baby). They hold the front end and fail to support the butt. After seeing that a couple times, I stopped letting people pick up Max.

After the show, I asked if I could touch, to feel the texture, and I still didn't feel right.

As for babies, I'm terrified of carrying them! I'd use four hands if I had them

The only person(s) I allow to pick up Razz is my husband, his breeder, and his handlers.

| My Harley is just 3 1/2 pounds so there are only a few people I will let hold him. He does not do well with children holding him because he tries to wiggle away from them so I do not let children hold him. He loves attention and to cuddle so I will let those that he knows hold him if they sit down with him. I will hold him if a stranger wants to pet him or see him, but I never let a stranger hold him. That to me would be like letting a stranger hold my child!!! No WAY!!!! ![]() Christy- mother of Haarley and his pug sister Gracie |

| There are only a few people I trust to hold Bentley and no one else. Anyone who wants to pet him is welcome as long as he is on the ground. |

| When I want Eddie to get moving on a walk, I tell him "I'm gonna pick you up." That sends him high-tailing it. LOL, I do the same thing with Roxie! She hates when we pick her up. The only time she lets us willingly hold her is when we are in the vet's office or at the groomer's...then she actually jumps into my arms. I have a lot of neighborhood kids who have tried to pick her up, and I always have to tell them not to. They don't even ask - they just try to grab her! She does scratch and wiggle when being unwillingly held, and I also never know if she will snap and nip or bite someone.

| I have 3 of the most social little dogs. We do a lot of RV camping and when we get everything set up (which consists of a large x-pen area with cabanas, toys, etc), it attracts so many other campers. The younger girls mostly want to come and visit with the dogs which I welcome. First thing they ask is to hold them....... I tell them that they can get in the pen with them and sit down and play instead of picking them up..... I think they like that even better than picking them up.... so everyone wins! (especially the dogs.... they LOVE all the attention! ) It also gives me the opportunity to tell them about the breed.... (including injuries from drops/falls)

| Oh yeah! she thinks she is so tough! lol she is just less than 9 weeks but she loves being held and handled! she would rather have me walk with her zipped up in my sweatshirt than actually walk! she cuddles up to anyone who picks her up as long as they are calm. she was pretty much the opposite when I got her (I'm 14 by the way) and she was very squirmy and nervous. Now she sleeps on me and (being modest LoL) I think I'm her favorite person in our house but she is MY dog. I picked her out, I slept with her in the car with her when my parents went into Menards. and I'm the one that she is sleeping on right now lol! |

| Both of mine love to be picked up by me and DH, but I never allow strangers to pick them up. I can tell they are uncomfortable with people they don't know but I will usually let people pet them... just not pick them up. I also have this strange fear of someone picking them up and running away with them lol It could happen!

| Yorkie Talker | First off, hello my name is Dana, I am a newbie but that does not mean I don't know what I'm talking about. My baby Emma is 6mo and weighs 4lbs. Before I got her it was not something I thought about with dogs I had in the past. Yorkies are so tiny, so delicate. Most people that want to hold them do not realise just exactly how fragile they are. One of these little babies only has to fall a foot to break a bone. Would these people like to pay to have OUR baby put in a cast? Operated on? Extremely expensive vet bills? NO and it's safe to say most probably wouldn't. And these little ones get hurt so easy. People wouldn't mean to hurt them but accidents happen. CHILDREN especially. I have read so many horror stories about accidents with them. It's just safer for everyone to say NO! Most will understand if you explain but for those who don't.. not your problem. Sorry for rambling, just something I've dealt with myself. GOOD LUCK TO YOU. And I know what you mean... do people ask if they can hold a pitt bull? lol |
