| I have so much learning to do because I feel like when I dont use a flash, pics come out crappy. I'm obviously just doing it wrong lol. Unless i'm outside, then no flash is neeeded.

The only time flash does a nice job is when you can "bounce" it...ie angle the flash. In other words, I have a flash I can attach (the SB400, which BrowniesMom also has), I can angle the flash piece of it UP toward the the ceiling or at 45 degrees or so. SO, when the flash goes off, I can get this beautiful light, but NO glaring direct "flash" light AT my subject. Rather, the flash/light is being "bounced" AT them from the ceiling. The light is being reflected toward them, not directed on them. Does that make sense? [but I still prefer NOT using flash...I gotta say  ]

The 2nd pic is with my D90, flash bounced - it is of a Lab I recently rescued, Ella (she has heartworm and was dumped in my 'hood  ). If she had direct flash on her face, her eyes would be all reflect-y, instead, you see her gorgeous soulful, rich brown eyes.

| I love these shots. I can see where a regular flash wouldn't have worked as well with either one. That flash was already n my shopping list, but I might have to bump it up a spot or two. Ella is a beautiful girl, & I agree about her eyes. Thanks Ann!

| Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh, btw -- the pic of the cherry cakes was taken on Manual w/ 50mm lens (D40) - probably w/ an aperture of 1.8 or next f-stop up; the pic of Ella was taken on A (aperture priority) w/ 50mm lens (D90)...and she was moving around...hence, the weird chop of the pic .
